Ape files not imported properly
« on: December 05, 2003, 10:43:28 am »

I have a problem importing ape files.

When I import wave files that have been ripped from a CD, file names are reflected as titles in the databse if I check "Get file information from file name/directory" in the "Import Media Files" window, which is what MJ8 is supposed to do.

However, this does not work for files that have been ripped to ape files.  They simply appear as "Track 1", "Track 2", ....

I tried with files that have been first ripped to Uncompressed Wave, then converted to ape, but with the same result.

Curiously, files converted from wave to ape on Monkey's Audio (not on MJ8) are properly imported: their titles appear correctly on the MJ8 database.

I assume there is something wrong with the ape plug-in for MJ8.

It may have something to do with the tag version. Early apes used ID3v1 (or APE1), then they evolved into APE2 tags (kind of like vorbis comments). Highlight a problem file in MJ then right click>Properties>File Type Info (tab). Not positive this path is correct...but it should be pretty close. What does it say?

Here's a sample (from Media Center)...

Monkey's Audio 3.96 (normal)
Format: 44.1 khz, 16 bit, 2 ch
Length: 20:03
Compression: 49.04% (99.3 MB / 202.4 MB)
Tag: APE Tag 1.00 (210 bytes)
   Title: Side 1 (1 thru 5)
   Artist: Gary Numan
   Album: Pleasure Principle
   Comment: Vinyl to Ape 3.96
   Genre: Rock
   Year: 1979
   Track: 0

10-27

You'll have to upgrade to Media Center for the latest APE support, which includes native APEv2 tagging.
