Control MC with IR Remote?
« on: December 17, 2003, 01:09:45 pm »

I just learned that my brother got me a universal remote control for Christmas.

It's a huge touch-screen LCD display and is highly programmable; you can create buttons and record macros.  It's a very cool toy, and I think it'll be great for my TiVo, since it'll make it a little easier to navigate to different screens.

I would love to use this as my only remote control.  Is there an easy way of using an IR remote to control MC?

I know I'd need some sort of IR receiver, but beyond that, I have no clue.

Check the FAQ at the top of this thread.  I think there are some links there.  MC Options has a remote section.  You can teach MC to use any remote there.

Gday,

I'm using an IRMan from http://www.evation.com/irman/

It is a serial port device, which is supported via plug-in in Media Center. It is one of the most well-supported devices for IR control of a PC.

A lot of software has in-built support for it, and you can use Girder http://www.girder.nl/ to control applications, windows etc which do not neccessarily have in-built IR support.

Have fun!
