Import truncates track length??
« on: February 24, 2004, 09:01:24 am »

When importing files with MC 9.1, about 10% of my music library winds up with severly truncated track lengths. Where some songs should be, say, four minutes duration, they wind up about 10 secs. Results all over the place, where some tracks are fine. I performed Clear Library followed by fresh Import but problems re-occurs. Everything fine when using MJ 8, but upgraded to MC due to need for iPod sync, but this issue is a show stopper. Please help, thank you.

What version?  Please copy your system info from MC Help and paste it here.

What format of files?  MP3?

Woops, file format is all .mp3, extracted with EAC, compressed with Lame. Playlists saved in .mpl format.  Library works fine with latest version of MJ 8.

I don't know.  Can you try 10.0, available in a thread near the top of this board?

I am not interested in a beta version when the current "stable" version (9.1) is obviously not working. Can someone please help?

Please try 10.0 and let us know.  It is as stable as 9.1 at this point.

I installed beta version of MC 10 on two machines. I then imported my music library of apprx. 10K mp3 files from a central server. Again, the problem presists, and on both machines: About 10% of my library's song clips have severly shortened play times with a Duration reading in some cases of 0 sec. Some tracks play to their normal length (even after slider bar hits max range), while others end before their already shortened timeframe. The suspect track's file sizes as shown in the view pane are correct.

What do I do now??

What happens if you install on the server and import there?  There could be network issues.

"Network issues" never existed when using MJ and that included importing via wireless to other machines. I would prefer to keep the server clean and avoid installing any unnecessary app's.

Surely there's a fix for this problem??

It's not possible to fix a problem unless it can be duplicated.  Nobody else is reporting this problem.

You can prove that the network isn't the problem by installing MC on the server to see if you still have the problem.
