I have MC 11 and just bought an iPod 20GB (4th Generation).  I've being reading threads for the past few days and trying everything I can find, but cannot get Media Center to "find" my iPod.  I've deleted the iTunesDB file, reset MC handheld iPod settings, reformatted the iPod, etc. but cannot get MC 11 to get past the error message "Initialization Failure.  Device not found".  I can't re-initialize the iPod within MC 11 because it can't see it.

Basically, I'm ready to throw in the towel and get a different handheld.  My buddies who have iPods say that I'm an idiot to try and use it with anything other than iTunes and that I should buy a Nomad if I'm going to use MC 11.

On that note, what about the new Sony 20GB player or something else like that.  I really don't want the iPod if it's going to be such a pain in the ass.  Suggestions?

BTW, I use MMJB also and would like a handheld that works with it as well (they can't support iPods either it seems).  I'm starting to really question the whole iPod frenzy if they aren't compatible with anything other than iTunes...

Any help would be greatly appreciated before I toss this thing through a window.

What version do you have?  Please copy and paste your system info from MC11's Help.

Have you tried uninstalling MMJB and Itunes?

I have uninstalled iTunes and installed a new copy of MMJB to no avail.

Just for kicks I loaded MC 10 and had no problems (sys info. to follow).  Is there an iPod bug in MC 11 or am I just missing something?

Now that it works with 10, what happens with 11? Are you logged in with Administrator priviledges?

Yes, I am logged in with Administrator privileges, and it still will not find the iPod in MC 11 (same message as before: "Initialization Failure.  Device not found").

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  It looks like a bug in MC 11 is the problem.

How does the iPod exactly appear in the MC tree?

It appears directly under my D: drive as "iPod" with a little square icon in front of it.  When I try to select or right mouse on it the error message "Initialization Failure.  Device not found" is displayed.  After I click on the OK button for the error message multiple times a very small button that says "Format" sometimes appears.  If I select it, it sometimes displays a dialogue box  labeled hh_WMDM.  Inside the box is the text string "This will format your memory.  You will lose all data on the portable.  Continue?" with the buttons "Yes" and "No".  If I select "Yes" an empty dialogue box with the label "Progress" appears, the entire MC 11 Application locks up, and the Microsoft Error Reporting Message apprears.  I then have to go to "Task Manager" and shut down Media Center and start over.

Please try running iPod updater (3-23-05) on your iPod and then try again.

Also, if you can, post a screenshot of the iPod in the MC tree.
