Copy Library to another computer
« on: August 23, 2005, 10:05:22 am »

I have made a copy af all my music exactly as it is on my c drive to an external hard disk.

This directory is not c:\my music, but m:\mijn muziek\gedeeld (in dutch).

I have made a personal playlist of the best songs (and I have about 6000 songs on the computer)

Is there a trick to copy the library to the other computer, and let him know the change of the driver and directory (sorry for my bad English)

Please help.

A way to do it:

1. Make a library backup (File > Library > Backup Library...).

2. Restore the backup on your other PC (File > Library > Restore Library...).

3. Select all files.

4. Use this tool: Tools > Library Tools > Find and Replace
    - Tick only:  Filename (path)
    - Find what:  C:\my music\
    - Replace:  M:\mijn muziek\gedeeld\

Just make sure that MC does not find files from the old location (e.g. "C:\my music") because in that case it tries to move them. Because MC cannot find the files from the old location it displays an error message, but it will find the files in the new location afterwards. Try this with a few test files first.
