UMPC
« on: March 09, 2006, 08:32:09 am »

Is it just me, I see a big future for Media Center on this platform (assuming the platform has legs).

UMPC

Does JRiver perhaps have an 'advance' prototype?  Seems like it opens up many more options vs. MC on a laptop/notebook or even tablet platform.

Might we see a version of MC for UMPC before too long?

We've been following the news.  engadget.com has some good coverage.

Since it runs XP, you should be able to run MC on it now.

I bought a very similar device from Sony about a year and a half ago.  It was a U70.  Here's more about it:

It was pretty neat, worked fine, but it's sitting in the closet right now.  It does everything a notebook PC does, but it doesn't have a lid to protect the screen and it's thicker than my notebook, so I ended up carrying the notebook when travelling.  The screen was also a little small for my eyes.

We'll keep an eye on these devices.  They may make very good remotes eventually.

There was quite a lot of coverage of "Origami" in the UK, after it was unveiled in Hanover.  The reaction from everyone was along the lines of "Nice toy, but so what".
