Hey,

Just recently MC has been taking up 50%-100% of my system resources. I have a fairly robust PC (2 GB RAM on 3.40Ghz P4 running XPPro) and I don't think it used to do that. As a result, it's been reacting very slowly, like clicking the "Next Track" button it takes five or six seconds, or more, to stop playing the current song and start  the next one. And there is no cross-fade in the settings or taking place. There's just a response lag.

Also, when I convert tracks, the first few after I open the app go at an OK pace, but the oonger the app isopen the slower and slower it gets, to the point that it's taking almost 10 minutes to convert a 192 kpbs mp3 to 128 kpbs. I have to cvlose MC and reopen it to get back to a decent conversion speed, and then after 5 or 6 files, it starts to gradually slow way down again.

To try and fix this, I installed the latest version (11.191) yesterday, but no apparent improvement.

Anyone else start having this problem out of nowhere?

The only software that I can think of that might conflict is the new version of TMPGenc Xpress (4.0), but that's not running and it has its own mp3 encoder.

Any ideas?

I don't think that's it, only because it's even slow when I'm just doing tag editing or converting and there wouldn't by any visualizations running if I'm not playing a track, correct?

I'll uninstall a couple of the vis plugins I have installed and see if that helps. Thanks.

Is that an option somewhere in MC? I've uninstalled all the third-party plugins I use. What's a sharing plugin?

I think you may have nailed it.

Funny, I haven't changed AV software in a long time (NOD32). Must be a recent update, but that seems odd to me. When I disabled the live file monitor, however, the MC performance increase was substantial.

I have very similar problems. When I start up MC11.1.191, the MC screen builds up, but then I have to wait 10-15 seconds until the first click is accepted. The same happens when switching from one view scheme to the other (about 5 seconds). The whole program seems very unresponsive to mouse and keyboard input.

Reading the posts below I disabled my Anti-Virus Software, but it did not really help.

The whole problem is quite recent, as I remember that 10-15 releases ago MC11.1 was very, very fast. This is not the case any more.

Except for regular Windows XP/Office 2003, Anti-Virus, Zone-Alarm updates nothing significantly changed on my system. I had a IE7 Beta installed at some point, but deinstalled it again. There are no beta software and no extra pluigins installed (except G-Force)

Disabling may not be enough.  We've seen situations in the past where, even with the virus checker disabled, there was something going on in the background.  Try uninstalling.

There are a lot of weird things running these days.  It reminds me of the early days of DOS with a lot of TSR programs running and hooking the keyboard.

Yes, many weird things nowadays. Many marketing battles executed on  poor users desktops

Don't know whether antivirus was the culprit, but a complete deinstallation of MC11.1 (registry deleting included) and the antivirus software (avast4) and successive installation of both programs again, fixed the problem.

Now, MC11.1 keyboard/mouse input response time is normal again with the execption of switching between view schemes, which may still take up to 4-5 seconds.
This is probably due to the many thumbnails that have to be displayed on screen. It seems that it depends on the size of the thumbnails, the larger their size the quicker it switches, the smaller their size the more time it take to switch.
