MC10 Fails to find local servers
« on: November 18, 2006, 01:54:19 pm »

I have MC 10.  When I try to connect to my media server running on the other machine in my home I just get the message "failed to find local media server".  However when I try from the other macine I get a connection.  Any help appreciated.

We need more details: what does your network look like?

I have two machines, one (Windows XP) connects to the internet and has MC with the library.  This machine shares its internet connection with the other (Windows 2000) which trys to connect to the library on the first machine.  The two machines are directly connected via a crossover cable.

I have checked that port 80 is open through the firewall by using an nmap command.
Have also tried stopping firewall whilst testing - no effect.

Hope this is clear.

So the XP machine has two network cards?

What are the IP addresses of the two machines? How does the second machine get its IP address?

Yes, the XP machine has two cards.

First machine (XP): 192.168.0.1
Second machine (Win2K): 192.168.0.231 by dhcp from first machine

Try connecting using the IP address instead of searching (go into Library Manager).
If this works, you've got something messed up in your network config, probably the
subnet masking.
