Author Topic: Install problem -- Windows Media continues to be downloaded and installed  (Read 2705 times)

I've had a problem recently on one PC that turned out to be related to Windows Media Center 2005 and lack of an update it needed to have installed from Microsoft.

The symptom was that MC12 found an old wmvcore.dll in the Windows/System32 directory.  It was a version of 10.0, so MC12 downloaded WM11 (something we've needed to do for several months now).  Note that WM11 is the codec, not the player.  After installing WM11, the wmvcore.dll version remained unchanged.  I found the clue that helped me solve this when I tried to install WMP11 (the player).  I got this error message:

Setup cannot continue.....

Unsupported Operating System.
Please visit Windows Update to download the Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 before installing WMP11.

The solution was to go to microsoft.com and get the update.

After that, MC12 installed correctly.
