AAC files in MC12
« on: April 09, 2007, 06:22:14 pm »

I read in the program itself that you can play protected AAC files purchased through iTunes, but I can't get these files to import into my library. I tried adding the iTunes Music folder in Library & Folders in the program but when I go to Run Auto-Import Now it says the following:

Library now has 13826 files. Search and update took 0:01.

Imported 0 new files.
Failed to import 65 files.
Skipped 82 files previously deleted from library.

I checked for the program to associate with AAC files and everything. I'm not sure what I'm missing here. Any help is appreciated.

You need to have Apple's Quicktime installed.  You don't need to have iTunes installed, but it will usually come with QT.

Here's the link to their download page:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html

but you have to check the option to get QT without iTunes.

It's the other way around.  You need QT, a recent version.

I just tried and the only options in the installer were Repair and Remove, so I went with Repair and retried everything but to no avail.  :-\

Then install a codec pack like CCCP (recommended) or k-lite codec pack.

Ah, I got it finally after two days of trying and it was stupidity on my part. I never tried dragging and dropping the files into the program. I did that and now all is well.

Thanks for the help.

Codec packs work for unprotected aac file. Protected AAC files need Quicktime.

I wonder if you may have forgotten to check AAC in the "type to import" list? Click "Advanced >>" button if you do not see the list.
