Failed to import MusicMatch Jukebox user ratings
« on: June 26, 2007, 02:03:28 pm »

When I imported my mp3 files the user ratings failed to come along.  Can anyone tell me how to import the mp3 files with the user ratings?  I have 5000 rated songs so the failure to import user ratings is a show stopper for me.

The user ratings were created in MusicMatch which has been dumped in favor of the stunted Yahoo Music.  (Hello JRiver, pay attention, ten million users are up for grabs if you can support the importation of the user tags created in MusicMatch.)

Thanks.

Musicmatch Jukebox does not use the ID3v2.3 POPM field (popularimeter), which is used for rating in MC12 and many other programs.

However, MC12 supports the proprietary "Musicmatch Preference" tag. You can make it visible by adding the Preference column to a view (Use the details view mode).

You can transfer Musicmatch Preference values to MC's star ratings by creating six playlists, one for each Musicmatch rating. Sort your view by the Preference column and add the files to corresponding playlists. After that you can easily select all files in a playlist and rate them all at once.

Musicmatch has six default preference values and the star rating system has only five stars. A workaround is to use the "no stars" value for the lowest Musicmatch value. Alternatively you can combine two of the values.

This thread has more info about the supported Musicmatch tags:

Turns out the Perference field correctly imported the MusicMatch ratings without me even knowing it!   Which is great, but JRiver might want to note this somehow for all us orphaned MusicMatch users.  Another observation is that MusicMatch is a 5 star system, not six unless you count unrated as a rating, so the Preferences map exactly to MC.

Thanks again.

Perhaps someone who has recently moved from MMJB to MC could add some tips to the Media Center Wiki.

My Musicmatch experience seems to be outdated. My last MMJB version is 7.5 from the year 2003. I have kept it for testing purposes. It has the following six preference values:

If your MMJB version saves its ratings as numbers from 1 to 5 you can simply copy the Preference values to the Rating field with the "Move / Copy Fields" tool.
