Moving a library from one computer to another
« on: December 10, 2007, 02:00:18 pm »

All my media files are stored centrally on a couple of NAS devices.
I recently re-installed XP SP2 on the second hard drive of my HTPC. The first drive has my old winXP install which is ruined by codecs/filters refusing to leave, dominating playback regardless of set merits etc. This drive also has my smart playlists etc. and my MC library.
Is there a painless way to import all the library data, thumbnails etc. from one install to the other? Since all the media files are central, the paths to these will not have changed.

As a follow-on question, is there a way for the library data itself to be stored centrally, so taht multiple PCs using MC can all access the same playlists, thumbnails etc. all the time?

I'm SURE this is covered in online documentation or in other threads, so I apologise in advance and request a nudge in the right direction. A superficial search has not yielded too much though.

Library Server can be used to serve a single library to multiple clients.

A client can also sync an entire library from it.

Yes.  If you put the library files on a network share, multiple copies of MC can use it.  If two copies of MC try to use it simultaneously, only the first copy to access the library gets read/write access and the rest get read-only access.  Read this: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=43827.msg299951#msg299951
