I am happy that Emusic has updated its catalog with much music. However, most of the new arrivals are "not available outside North America due to liscensing restrictions". Almost all the music from the UMG label are not allowed for subsribers outside North America. I am very disappointed.

North American people pay, and I pay TOO (oh, I am from Hong Kong). Why can't I access those music? Look at the jazz catalog. Its new arrivals are almost only "seeable but untouchable" (to me)..........And so is the rock catalog.

Of course, I am not asking for answer. I am just complaining. And the whole Emusic website does not show an email which I can contact them. I have long wanted to reflect my opinion to them about the "jit" sound I heard from some music I downloaded. But so far I have not contacted Emusic. I understand they don't have time to deal with me small potato subscriber. I still have 2 months left.

But accidentally I have found another LEGAL way to access music. I travelled to mainland China a week before. There I bought a CD from a CD store. It is "#1's" by Mariah Carey. This legal CD only costed me 20renminbi (China dollars)(that is about USD2.4). On the CD back cover, it said "Copyright provided by Sony Columbia. Distributed by the Beijing Publishing Company of Culture, Art and Audio" (in Chinese language). Quality of the CD is 24bit and 96khz. I was shocked and surprised.

Of course I cannot often go to mainland China. But it feels good to buy CDs there....maybe twice a year.

Oh I also bought some books on social science and a box of Mandrake Linux 8.2 there.

When you register with eMusic you simply have to fill in an address in the USA. Then you can get music, that is "only for USA".
eMusic doesn't check your IP.

This trick is from german c't-magazine.

Mirko,
This must be true. I checked by logging on as a real Emusic subscriber in another country (at that user's request) and I couldn't download some songs. I relogged in as myself and had no problem. Same ISP. But here's a wierd thing: I had to search for 2 hours to find any that prohibited downloads outside of the US. I know that there are quite a few that can't but there are a lot that can be distributed internationally. It does bite that you pay the same as me but are curtailed.

Lucy,
Hello. I haven't seen any of your posts in a long time. Good to see you back.

@zevele

In the same articel I read the author said, that there is no possibilty of changing address. So you have to unsubscribe and subscribe again. Or cancel _immediatly_ your test membership and register as "Heinz Meier, Greenleaf, Indiana" ;-)

Some trivia... (thanks google!)

H. J. Heinz was born in America but his parents were from Bavaria / Germany.   Although known for ketchup he started with horse radish.

What about May?  Maybe that '<' really belongs?

Hans - What really is interesting is that my only maternal uncle, and my Godfather as well, was named "Hans".  He was a very nice man.  And his father, Johann, was called Hans for some reason or another.
