Cover art directory...Where?
« on: July 21, 2008, 06:56:57 pm »

I cant find the cover art directory in MC12, earlier versions were easy if I remember correctly.  I need to know so I can troubleshoot my Music Lobby Plugin which is not displaying any newly added cover art after an upgrade to MC12.  The artwork shows up in Media Center just fine, but not in Music Lobby and I can’t get an answer at the Cinemar forums, they seem completely stumped.

Any ideas

You'll find it here:
Tools/Options/File Location/Cover Art.

Thanks, :)

Do I need to set to something else like "the same folder as the file" in order for Music lobby to pick it up?

There is definitely something about this directory that is causing my problem, I only have the last three cover arts that I added in the directory that it points to and none of these three are showing up in Music Lobby.

The older version of MC11 must have put them somewhere else.  Does anyone know of a way to get them all in the same directory?

You could try a search from Explorer to find it.  Try searching for the name of an album you know is missing.

I can't really help too much as I know nothing about music lobby (except that it is way too expensive for me) but, I wonder, does it help if you set the coverart location to: "In a specified folder", then set that folder to "C:\Program Files\[media center program folder]\Data\Cover Art\"

That's where it used to default to, so I guess it's possible that that's where music lobby is looking?

You could try a search from Explorer to find it.  Try searching for the name of an album you know is missing.

No album is missing, it’s just the connection or location of cover art that has changed from the last upgrade that has disconnected all newly added cover art in MC12.  Music Lobby looks at a specified place, probably the old location of MC11’s cover art since all that is still viewable in music lobby.

The last three I added after the update from MC11 to MC12.0.492 caused Music Lobby to not be able to find the latest added cover art obviously because its looking in the wrong directory, or some setting for saving cover art is wrong.

If I knew the old directory that MC11 stored cover art into it might help me to figure it out.  It seems the Forum at Cinemar is dead or something, I haven’t been able to get any help for the last several days.  Sorry to bother you guys with this.

does it work?

can't hurt to try, surely?

MC also can store the cover art in the file if you have that option set.

That's not the default location for it in MC11.  Run MC11 to check your settings and compare them with MC12.

kingdaddy,

Have you checked the "Image File" field contents? It shows the actual cover art link for each file.

It is possible that you have cover art files in more than one location. Once MC has created a cover art link it is preserved and MC does not automatically move the image files. Only new cover art files are stored in the location that is defined in the options.

MC10 and older used the "program files..." location by default.
MC11 and 12 use the "user specific application data" location by default.
In addition, in Vista the "user specific application data" location changed.

For instance, even if a long time user has never changed the default setting it is possible that the external cover art files are linked from the following locations:

C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\Data\Cover Art\
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\Data\Cover Art\
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\J River\Media Center 11\Cover Art
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\J River\Media Center 12\Cover Art
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 12\Cover Art  (I am not running Vista at the moment, but I think this is correct)

-- replace <user> with your actual user name.

I guess the question that needs answered is, "how does music lobby obtain cover art from MC?"

kingdaddy's art is displaying fine in MC, but not in music lobby.

OK, looked at the default directories in options and it was pointint to the wrong place so I changed to the same old directory that has been working for years in Music Lobby………but still no coverart in Music Lobby.

I’m thinking that my last upgrade to MC12.0.xxx went bad somehow since that’s when the problem started.  Can someone tell me how to reinstall the latest upgrade again, it was automatic before, maybe if I manually install it will work.

MC also can store the cover art in the file if you have that option set.

That has nothing to do with the problem.  It works in MC, you said.

MusicLobby is either looking in a different directory OR in the file itself.

OK, here is what I found.

I deleted the coverart from MC12 and told it to delete from hard disc as well, then I used the "Find coverart from internet " option (which I never use because it never found anything before), and then it shows up in Music Lobby.  I also told MC12 not to store the coverart in the tags but that alone didnt do anything, maybe it was a combination of that and re-adding the coverart from the Internet.

Still don’t know why or what the problem is and I was told by the MC gurus in the past to paste the coverart into the image tag manually to avoid coverart naming issues.  Guess I cant do that anymore and I don’t know what I'm going to do when I find an album that MC12 cannot automatically find on the internet.  Guess ill cross that bridge when I come to it. Anyway I store all my coverart externally as suggested by Cinemar and none of this pasting the coverart in the tag was ever an issue in MC11.

A Google search found this thread at Cinemar's forum:
http://forum.cinemaronlineforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=12640

Could it help?

EDIT

Here's a thread about Musiclobby and external vs embedded cover art:

No, my issue was a bit different, all my cover art was showing up fine even with the cover art embedded in the tags, it was only the last three I added after the upgrade to MC12 and Main Lobby that the problem started and it doesn’t seem to care rather or not the cover art is embedded or not, it only shows up in Music Lobby if I add cover art from the internet from within MC12, nothing else works.

Thanks for the links though.
