Dvorak keyboard
« on: April 28, 2009, 11:40:46 am »

Does anyone out there know how to type quickly on a Dvorak keyboard?  I read that QWERTY was created to slow typers down so they didn't jam typewriters.  The statistics show that many more words can be typed completely on home row and there is a significantly reduced amount of finger travel.  It said something like 1 mile travel in a typical day versus 15 miles on the QWERTY design.

Most importantly to those who are able to type on DVORAK is: can you type on either with minimal problems?  I almost want to learn DVORAK and am curious what top speeds are on it.  I can hit 100 words/minute or higher on QWERTY without too much trouble.  What is possible on DVORAK?  I know someone who can type 120 words/minute on QWERTY.

I know one person who used it.  He could type like a maniac on dvorak.  Not so much on qwerty.

That is my only data point.
