Tags done with Media Jukebox aren't correctly displayed
« on: July 12, 2002, 01:07:35 pm »

If I tag mp3 files to ID3 v2 with the Media Jukebox the tag isn't displayed in the Windows Explorer. Yesterday somebody told me, that  the Windows Explorer would not display any ID3 v2 tags, but this isn't true, because the Windows Explorer shows the ID3 v2 tags made with other tagging software (for example MP3 Media Studio www.zortam.com ).
It would be really great if you can fix this probably little bug.
Maybe this depends on the newest version of ID3 v2.
I am new here and I have to say, that the Media Jukebox is the best management software for music files I've tested so far.

Please give me an answer!

If the ID3 v2-tag from other software is displayed in the Windows Explorer it should be possible with the Media Jukebox, too.
In another thread King Sparta granted, that there are renaming problems. Maybe you can solve this problems together.
It's a really good software, but the media management and tagging is the main reason for me to buy your Media Jukebox.

King Sparta,

I'm sorry, if I was wrong. My English is not very good.
But I'm sure, that the ID3 v2 tag is displayed in the Windows Explorer.
Please try it on your own! ( www.zortam.com ).

Is Zortan writing ID3v1 and v2 tags?

There are a lot of "standards" in use for ID3v2.

Don't worry about your English.  If you want to, please ask the question in your own language and someone will answer.

Jim,

thank you very much for your answer!
I can choose in Zortam's Media Studio ID3 tag v1 or v2. But even if I save to v2 it is correctly displayed in the Windows Explorer. With the Media Jukebox only ID3 tag v1 is correctly shown in the Windows Explorer. If I save to both v1 and v2 no tag is displayed.
I tried this with four tagging softwares. Mp3 info extension ( www.mutschler.de ) does this correctly, but the other two ones (helium 2 and Dapyx Mp3 Explorer) fail in the same way like Media Jukebox.
Maybe there are different versions from ID-tag organization.
I hope, that I'm not the only one, who uses the Windows Explorer with MP3 files and wants the tags correctly displayed.

Well, It looks like Windows Properties really hate our MJMetaData field in the tag.

If the field is not there Windows recognizes tag information without any problems.

I'm not sure what we can do about it.

We fixed the problem, but there is a limitation. The following fields must be empty: Custom 1, Custom 2, Custom 3, AlbumArtist, Imagefile, ReplayGain, and Rating. These are the fields that have been saved into MJMetaData. In next build, if all this fields are empty MJMetaData will not be saved.
