"Your iPod could not be properly identified"
« on: September 22, 2009, 05:33:20 pm »

I'm trying to use a brand new iPod nano with Media Center.  I have tried version 12 (which is what I was using with my old iPod) and received this error.

Media Center 14 gives me the same error message, which is:

Your iPod could not be properly identified
Please check for an updated version of Media Center.
   iPod type: 'YM9371K573A', ", 1452, 4709

The part number of my iPod is MC074LL/A.  It is a 16 GB (Product) Red nano.

If it matters, I am using Windows XP.

Also, I saw another thread about this problem, wherein that user ignored the error and his iPod worked.  When I dismiss this error message, my iPod is still not recognized within Media Center.

Thanks for any help,

Jeff

Make sure you have MC 14.0.71, from our download page.

Try "Redetect Devices".  It probably won't work but it's worth trying.

I did try that, and you were correct, it did not work.

Jim,

Don't forget that this is a brand new iPod, and I believe, though am not sure, that this model (or rather, generation) is also new.  It is a 16 GB version, something that I did not see in the "list of iPods" in the first post in this forum.

Jim,

I am having the exact same problem (same iPod Nano, etc). Have attempted all Apple suggested fixes. Other forum suggestions, but still result in ID error by MC 13 and 14. This is not an issue with my other iPods (4th & 5th gen). Only this most recent purchase of 16GB Nano.

It's a 5th gen ipod nano. We need to add that to the supported players list. A model number from the Settings->About on the ipod would help as well as the info in the post at the top of this thread.

I supplied my model number, I believe.  Are we all set on the information that you need?  Do you (Masters of the Universe) think that a resolution is coming this way?

Hi

I also get the same error message.
it is a 16gb nano 4th gen YM9366RN739 1452,4709

I did ask before purchasing the 4th gen if it would be supported and was told that it would be, so a little diappointed that i now have to install itunes, and load the library. I need to take the ipod travelling with me so am short of time to get this working.

You should really have a clear list on the front of your website that lists exactly what is supported. Otherwise you are misleading customers!

Have you tried build 79 on the MC14 board?

Now I have tried build 79.  I get this message when I plug in the iPod:

   Device information cannot be retrieved.
Please reboot your PC and retry

I have tried rebooting my PC, and I get the same message, so I am still out of commission.

Hmmm, that should have worked. Can you startup MC, turn on logging, reset the log, then plug in the ipod, wait until you get the error message and then email the logfile to bob <at> jriver.com

Thanks...
