Media Center 14.0.151 -- Available Here
« on: February 25, 2010, 10:39:00 am »

This is a beta version of MC 14.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted or moved.

http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/MediaCenter140151.exe

14.0.151 (02/24/2010)

1. Fixed: During television playback, the JRiver audio renderer would not be used.
2. Fixed: A timeout when reading from an internet resource could cause a crash.
3. Optimized: When using the JRiver Audio Renderer for video playback, the DSP Studio is managed by the renderer instead of inserting a discrete DSP Studio transform filter in the playback graph.
4. Changed: Revised how clocking in JRiver Audio Renderer works so that it nicely supports tempo and rate changes in DSP Studio (or other similar VST, etc. plugins).
5. Fixed: JRiver audio renderer caused some videos to repeat the last sound byte forever.

14.0.150 (02/23/2010)

1. Fixed: Some WAV tags could cause the program to hang.
2. Fixed: Switching between a Directshow audio filter and a Media Center plugin for audio decoding would unnecessarily do a full-stop transition, making cross-fading, gapless, etc. impossible.
3. Changed: Improved lip-sync when using JRiver audio renderer (may require one seek before lip-sync is correct).
4. Changed: Theater View's Playing Now looks and works better when playback is stopped.
5. Changed: Improved support of mu-law encoded AU files.
6. Fixed: Slim view would incorrectly do Windows 7-like edge snapping. (still snaps to edges, just doesn't fill half the screen)
7. Changed: Playing a physical DVD when connected to a library server that had also played that DVD would not work.
8. Changed: JRiver audio renderer can be used for DVD, TV, and video playback.
9. Fixed: The more sophisticated resampling options from build 148 were not being honored during video playback.

14.0.149 (02/19/2010)

1. Fixed: Theater View list selection wouldn't properly reset to the beginning of a list when navigating into an item.
2. Optimized: Improved program shutdown performance.
3. Fixed: The new Playing Now in Theater View could hide the first file in the list view.
4. Internal: Revised how output plugins are loaded (should be internal change only, please report any issues).
5. Changed: Scheduled television recording will stop a low priority recording if a higher priority recording is scheduled.

14.0.148 (02/18/2010)

1. Fixed: Loading a DLNA library from some NAS drives would not support FLAC files.
2. Changed: Tightened up item spacing at bottom of Theater View's Playing Now.
3. Changed: Updated German language file (thanks Bytestar).
4. Chef's Recommendation  NEW: Added ASIO 'Volume' option to allow customization of the system volume device controlled during ASIO playback (since ASIO device names do not always match Windows device names).
5. Changed: Improved volume matching mode during ASIO playback when the volume option is set to 'Automatically try to choose at playback time'.
6. Changed: When replacing Microsoft DTV-DVD audio decoder with another decoder during video, DVD, and television playback that involves AC3 audio decoding, a prominent message is displayed to show user of progress.
7. Fixed: MC could repeatedly download and install FLV splitter filter on Windows 7 due to failure to access registry.
8. Chef's Recommendation  NEW: Output Format in DSP Studio allows more sophisticated resampling settings, making it easier to leave sample rates supported by your hardware untouched while resampling unsupported formats.
9. Changed: Updated copyright years on about and splash images.
10. Fixed: When playing a video, incorrect values could show in DSP Studio > Volume Leveling (replay gain not available for videos).

14.0.147 (02/17/2010)

1. NEW: Theater View's Playing Now has functional position, volume, and star ratings (all items have left, right, enter functionality -- currently requires a remote or keyboard for functionality)
2. Fixed: The new Theater View Playing Now 'Info' panel was not tied to the correct file.
3. Changed: When Theater View jumps to Playing Now, it does it relative to the current view so "Back" will return to the previous view.
4. Changed: Theater View will jump to Playing Now when starting audio playback, a single
click will return. (can still be customized in Options > Theater View)

14.0.146 (02/16/2010)

1. NEW: Theater View has a new and improved Playing Now. (still a work in progress)
2. Changed: Pressing [Delete] at the end of an edit control no longer acts like pressing [Backspace].
3. Fixed: Windows 7 taskbar playback buttons would not be visible after restarting Media Center with Media Server already running.
4. Changed: By default, DLNA servers use relative URLs in their descriptions instead of full URLs. (can be changed in Options > DLNA > Server > Advanced > Use full URLs instead of relative URLs)

14.0.145 (02/15/2010)

1. NEW: Added Windows 7 snap-like functionality to the main application. (snaps to sides of displays, snaps to internal edges of multi-monitor systems, maximizes when snapping to top, works on any operating system)
2. Fixed: The mode 'Always active' vs 'Active when visible' displayed in Plug-in Manager for an interface plugin could be incorrect.
3. Changed: Dutch language translation updated. (thanks bennyd!)
4. Fixed: When using the search box in 'Wizard' mode, the 'Wizard' link in the middle of the search box and clear button was not correctly clickable.
5. Fixed: The volume slider would not reliably connect to the correct sound card for a zone during DVD playback with analog sound output.
6. Changed: When being externally controlled by a DLNA controller, Media Center will disable continuous without permanently changing the continuous setting.
7. Changed: When rendering a disabled version of a button with no disabled art, a faded version of the normal image will be used instead of a faded version of the pressed image.
8. Optimized: Improved startup performance.
9. Fixed: Fixed a case where loading a corrupted JPEG could cause a program crash.

Focus bug:

Start a video playback and click on pause (or anywhere else) - move the mouse away from the pane - the pane will not disappear when you move the mouse away ...

Please dont forget:
  • "Set rules for file display" still does not store its settings.
  • Custom library field with calculated data still is buggy when checking for multiple artists.

thx

When using ASIO for audio output and volume control with system volume I cannot adjust the volume using the slider in MC or my keyboard's volume control. However, I can adjust the volume using the Windows 7 volume mixer and using the keyboard when the focus is on another application.

In Media Center's ASIO options, select the correct sound card line.

Or investigate system vs application vs internal volume in the player.

Selecting the correct Sound Card output worked. I see this change was added in this public release. Hopefully others will realize they might need to make a setting change for volume to work for them.

Bug Report:  Columm headers usually get out of alignment in detail view(s) while editing(renaming)/tabbing through fields on a single media record.  This happens when using the tab key to move to the next field while in the F2 edit/rename mode and the view/detail scrolls horizontally.  Sometimes it takes a couple of tabs hits for the headers to get misaligned.

Moving the horizontal slider instantly corrects the misalignment.

Here is an example screenshot of the misalignment:

And an screenshot of the corrected alignment after moving the scroll slider...

This bug has probably been around for a while (as I discovered it over a month ago).
Thanks for taking a look a fixing this (pesky little detail)!

Hi
Congrats on the new theater view design! I have a question, though. When playing music in theater view I get these really cool pictures in the background via Internet. Unfortunately, most of them hide behind the Album cover art or viz.  The other day I was listening to some R&B songs by Elvis (1957). Elvis was hidden behind the cover art which dominated most of the center of the screen. All I could see of Elvis was a foot, a hand and maybe an eye...! Is there a way to UNCHECK cover art or viz and just have the images/pictures Mediacenter feeds the theater view screen? Sometimes I don't want either cover art, or viz, track info etc. Just the theater view screen with the images or pictures from the Internet.  Is this possible? How?
Thanks
George

Not currently, although I'd like it too.

We've chosen a middle ground because some people like the internet images, and others find the chaotic and/or incorrect matches distracting.

one of the things you could do is using the info panel for that. that is when you are not having a lot of info you are interested in. you could change the size of the cover, or take it away, in the options of theater view, and take away the info you dont want for audio.

Developers:  Would you ever entertain the possibility of automatically launching the NetFlix player in fullscreen mode?  It kind of takes away from the home theatre experience to have to mouse over to toggle the fullscreen button.

Possible Bug: After installing the latest update (14.0.151), my Media Center randomly crashes while playing video files (avi files). I don't believe its a problem with the videos themselves because if I try to replay the video after restarting Media Center, they work. Also, playing these videos never caused me any problems in the previous version of 14. The program crashed about three times since I updated and it usually happened when I double click a video file to play it right after another video has finished playing. The crashes occurred in the main library of Media Center, not the Theater View (since I saw there were a lot of changes made to the Theater View). Any advice? Thanks.

there is something wrong with thumbnails in this release. They are not automatically created even though I can see the correct cover art in display view while playing the file. Going back to 144 solved the problem for me.

Coverart for portable installation does not work

The file it self is correct with "Filename" =(Install Drive): but the coverart gets the actual path, so if you have mediafiles on a stick and change letter they will vanish

can't disable online artist images in Theater View (for "secondary" artists result looks not good, IMHO needs some tuning (allow editing request?))
can't hide DLNA in plugin's

MC does not check for the disk number when synchronizing with handheld.
as a result of incorrectly identifies duplicates in releases like this

A single-click on the top bar of Media Center to bring it to the front from behind another window, quite often is causing MC to go full-screen instead of simply taking focus.

I am using netflix - it plays movies well.  But I can consistently get it to crash by exiting the netflix section (an attempt to get to the main menu).  Also pause works, but not stop/rewind/forwards.  Any suggestions for these items?

MC again doesn't apply tag changes on synchronization, received from client.
MC see changes, resync it, but files on handheld doesn't update.

In previous versions, watching Live TV in Standadrd View I could position the picture by left mouse click/hold down and moving the mouse. That feature is gone. Is that change by design, or is it missing?

You must now hold down the shift key while dragging mouse.  This is to prevent accidental moving of picture position.

8. Changed: JRiver audio renderer can be used for DVD, TV, and video playback.

What do we have to do to take advantage of this? Does this also include the ability to use ASIO for DVD as discussed elsewhere?

If you drag the window of mc to another secondary display the window is disappearing. V 14.0.131 doesn't had this behaviour. It appears again only if you restart the application.

Forgive me if this has been covered, but has anyone noticed that in Theater Mode, within "Playing Now,"  the secondary "back" button (the small one, just below the large one at the top of the screen) does nothing?   If you need clarification on that let me know.   I can provide a screen shot if necessary.
