DLNA connection for video & audio files
« on: January 01, 2011, 01:46:47 pm »

Hello

and happy new year!  :) I am new to DLNA but I have a 15 years knowledge in computers. Despite all I can't understand completely how JRiver MC & DLNA works.  ?

I have a new Philips TV and I want to connect it to my computer through MC Media Server. I read a lot of things but I cannot play video files from my PC, to TV.

Connection is OK, I can play audio files. I use Win Xp SP2, and Ethernet cable for connection. I can see the names of video files in TV screen, but they have end with letters ".TS" not ".avi" . Avi is a format my TV supports .  When I am trying to play any of this .ts files MC crashes, and connection lost. The last tries gave me the message "NOT a supported video format".

Any idea what I have to do to see video files to my TV?

Thank you

Welcome to the forum.  Make sure you have the latest build from the top of  the MC 15 board.  Then read some of Bob's comments.  He's a JRiver developer.

Video conversion is a priority right now and that may solve your problem.  If you are willing to help, we can probably solve the problem over the next several weeks.

I'm not sure about .ts files.  You may need a DirectShow filter.

I found the problem with ".ts" files. If at Options - Media network - DLNA Server - Advanced, tick both DLNA & DLNAExtra I have the .ts files. When I tick only DLNAExtra, files I have .avi again.

Also: To play those avi files using DLNA at my TV I had to choose in the same place of  MC under  Media network - DLNA Server "Video Conversion: Never convert"

Below is the solution for ts files and concern to Philips 46PFL7605...

The problem with .ts files is clearly from Advanced - DLNA option. When select the DLNA option, files changed to .ts. You have to select only the "DLNAExtra" to see .avi files and play at Philips PFL7605H DLNA.

Now my only problem left is that I can't see .srt subtitles. Subtitles file has the same name like .Avi file.

I have check / uncheck everything under   Options - Media network- DLNA Server - Advanced. Nothing works and I can't see external subtitles ".srt"

Anybody have a solution or idea?

Thank you
