Author Topic: mass update of chart number and date of highest chart in mp3 record  (Read 2462 times)

First, is this info stored in the mp3 record itself?  (Highest chart ranking and date of that ranking) or in the MJ database?

Second, can the fields be updated in a mass fashion (spreadsheet, dbf, etc) instead of via the properities in MJ as that is way to slow for the amount of updating I have to do.....

Thanks for the response.

This must have been a very dumb question as I got zero responses.

I thought this to be something everyone would have interest in.

Thank you for the info.

Can the MJ database be updated outside of MJ?  What is the format of the Database?  Can it be read in Excell or Access?

Thanks

Select > Copy > Paste into Excel. Modify. However, I'm not sure if MJ is able to read the mods. Should be possible with a file RE-IMPORT. Maybe try a small batch of files and see what happens.

Yes, but I do want MJ to read the mods.

I have an excell spreadsheet with a list of songs that were number 1 and the date they became #1 in Billboard.  Now I want the date and the #1 put into the mp3 file....Is that possible in MJ?

Sentryl, somehow I missed seeing your post; I would have responded sooner.

I, for one, would be interested in seeing this done.  Since ID3v1, I have been using the track number frame for the song's highest Billboard chart position, and using the year frame for the year it made it there.  I've been putting the Beats Per Minute in the Album frame; there just weren't enough fields then.  (I'm still waiting for support for the BPM frame.)

I also have an Excel spreadsheet with songs' Billboard position and year for the Top 100 from 1940 to 1999.  Any way of mapping a transfer to ID3 tags would save a lot of work.

Sentryl,

You can do this in MJ without actually going into properties also. Did you know that if you select 'Media Library' and edit in the right window the changes will show directly in the tags? It is a little slower then a dedicated spreadsheet app, but you can run up and down the columns using the arrow keys. Haven't got the left and right keys to work though.

Or...

Rename the custom fields if you are looking for search capable modifiers. Since these fields are already available, they should show up in the tags.

Or...

If I'm missing the point altogher, just ignore me.

I was wondering....

If MJ has the ability to export the data to one of these other apps, how can you get it to read, or re-import, the new info?

Is this possible at all? After messing with Excel, it can modify the files with great ease, but saves them with no extensions, that I can see, that are MJ friendly.

So, unless you are keeping a file in Excel, or whatever, of your library this is kind of like a lame duck. Doesn't do much good for the tag editing to send the files somewhere else if they cannot be seen in MJ. Anyone?

Figured I'd chime in on this too since I'd be very interested in somehow updating the MJ database with peak date, peak position, and weeks on chart info in the three custom fields. Right now I'm typing this information in by hand (I know, as opposed to what??) and it's a slow-going, tedious process (especially when you consider I'm the world's slowest typist). Being able to edit the database using Excel or whatever would be cool IF it could be re-imported by MJ. Cooler still would be the ability to have a Perl or Python program update this MJ track information by doing fuzzy searches through a list like Sentryl's and extracting the appropriate info from it.

These are all good comments, but none of them have come from the development team.

I have not heard anything on this subject from JimH.

Jim, Do you have any comments regarding this "batch update" suggestion?

Thanks in advance

You can't do that.

but maybe in the future.

I was looking at making a plugin to do this from a data base.

However Since this newer version of MJ I am having a problem with the SDK Sample crashing with an error #6, overflow when trying to play 10 random songs.

got any excel data you want to share?

Well I am working on 2 things right now

1. a Stand A Lone Program
2. A MJ Plug-In (problems with MJ SDK)

I currently have it working and you can save more than one Clip Art picture to mp3's

Some Minor Problems Right Now
