Library Server - starting old MC on client
« on: February 26, 2011, 07:42:26 am »

Hi

I've upgraded to MC 16 on my server and on another machine inside my local network. I've earlier on had this setup with MC 15 and it worked nicely. However when I now try to connect via LS from the client it connects to the server, but when it tries to load the server library it tries to start MC15 on the client and not MC16. I've tried to rename MC15.exe, but with no success. Do I have to uninstall MC 15 on the client ?

Maybe you're still starting Media Server in MC15.  Check Options/Startup in MC15.

Not quite sure what you mean. The server is only running MC16, no MC 15. The client has never run Media Server.
Besides, before I renamed MC15 on the client it complained that client/server was not the same version when trying to start MC.

Renaming won't work.  I think MC16 on the client is connecting to MC15's Library Server.  Change the option I gave you above and reboot the server.

You must run MC16 on both sides.  The Library Server must be MC16.

See the wiki article called "Servers" for a detailed description.

Ok. Done.

Didn't help. I do not think this has anything to do with server. There is no MC15 processes running on the server, I'm connecting via a different port on the MC16 installations than the MC15 and it still tries to start MC15 on the client.

Firewall?

Hardly. I do get a connection to the server, it asks for username and password, but when the client tries to open the library it is served it insists on opening MC15.

Try running MC16 server on the same port as you did MC15.

Try running MC16 server on the same port as you did MC15.

Same result. I get the webpage, selects the Library Server, enters username, password and then it tries to open MC15.

Please read the topic called "Servers" on our wiki.

Reboot and reinstall MC16 on both sides.

As I understand it, you are starting MC16 on the client, connecting to the MC16 client on the server, but when playback begins, MC15 opens on the client.  Is that correct?

No, I connect via a browser, ie: http://192.168.1.105:52199/LibraryServer. Connection to to MC16 server goes ok, with password etc. but when MC is supposed to start it tries to start MC15 and not MC16. If I try to connect from the outside, ie http://84.24.156.5:52199/LibraryServer, the same happens. If I do as you describe, ie. open MC16 on the client and selects File->Library->Add library it connects ok and playback goes as it should.

Sorry for the confusion.

Hmm, could it be that C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 16\Data\Library Server\Default\index.html has the line:

<p><a href="mc15://MCWS/v1/Library/Connect?URL=[LibraryServerLink]">Library Server[/url] enables browsing and playing from this library with a client copy of [ProgramName].&nbsp;&nbsp;Connecting requires [ProgramName] to be installed on this device.</p>

Should this be changed to:

<p><a href="mc16://MCWS...

Yepp. that was it.

This is a bug in the installation. Should be corrected.
