Can't Watch Videos with * > 16.0.128
« on: July 27, 2011, 06:20:04 pm »

I do not know why but I cannot watch any videos on any MC build greater than 16.0.128.  I do not know what could be causing this issue.  All I know if that if I click on a video to watch MC just crashes.  I'm given no warnings or information.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Are you using Red October?

Do you have Nvidea hardware?  Try updating your video driver.

No, sir.   I am not.  I use ATI, and have never had any issue before, since the MC 8 days.

Bryanhoop - I am using the default Red October settings.

Try this.

Uninstall, reboot, reinstall.  Then run MC as admin by right clicking on it.

I'm guessing that something on your system is blocking the download of one of the Red October components.

Make sure you're using the build from the top of the MC16 board.

Jim, nathanchavez, I'm not sure if your issues are the same, but I experienced something similar recently. I had gone from a later build, back to 128, then on to a later build again... no video would play without a crash as soon as the "Opening..." screen came up.

JohnT reckoned he'd found a bug in the dependancy installer, which has since been fixed.

nathanchavez, before going the whole 'uninstall' route...
  • Close MC
  • If you are using Windows Seven\Vista: Go to "C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 16\Plugins\" and delete everything within.
  • If you are using Windows XP: Go to "C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\J River\Media Center 16\Plugins\" and delete everything within.
    handy tip courtesy of Mojave

Now run MC and try playing a video again. It should then download the correct plugins, and it should work. If it does not, then try the whole uninstall routine, and if that does not work, shout again.

Everything seems to be working fine now that I've unistalled and reinstalled Media Center  The only thing that is a bit of a pain is that now I have to rebuild all my video thumbnails.

Thanks everyone.
