Hurricane Sandy -- Tell us how you're doing, East Coast
« on: October 29, 2012, 07:21:12 am »

The big hurricane, Sandy, is still off the coast of the U.S.   It looks like the center will come ashore tonight around Philadelphia, but the effects are being felt already.  Dover, Delaware has had about 2.5 inches of rain.  Winds there today will be at around 50 MPH, gusting to 80 MPH.

Here's the official track that NOAA has forecast:  http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at3.shtml?5-daynl?large#contents

The New York subway system and stock market are closed.  A storm surge is expected to flood low lying parts of NYC.

If you live on the East Coast, check in and tell us what you see out your window and how it may impact your day.

And good luck with it.  We're thinking of you.

Thanks,

Jim

when it hits NJ on it's current Track it will be a few miles south of my mom and dads house. Yesterday the track was north of them, closer to Atlantic city

this is a interactive map of the storm

It is just cloudy here in fayetteville, NC and has been for 3 days. we may see some rain today. I know along the coast they are getting hit bad, and route 12 on the outer banks is underwater.

something that is upsetting is The HMS Bounty, a three-mast, 180-foot ship used in movies and documentaries, was about 160 miles west of the eye of Hurricane Sandy about 6 a.m. and the crew abandoned ship. I hope they are safe, and the ship is not lost, It would be a shame to lose that ship.

The Coast Guard confirmed the ship "HMS Bounty" had sunk at 8:45 a.m. Monday about 90 miles southeast of Hatteras, according to WITN-TV in Washington.

My question is why was it out there, and not someplace safe. It is not like they did not know the storm was coming.

That is a bit weird, you'd have thought they would have moved the ship..

I see the track shows it going over Montreal, that seems pretty out of the ordinary also...

NCDOT posted a photo online of water from Hurricane Sandy washing over the temporary N.C. Highway 12 bridge (NC, Outer Banks) that was installed last year.

The HMS Bounty was built in 1962 for the movie "Mutiny on the Bounty" and has since been used in numerous films and documentaries, including "Pirates of the Caribbean."

Mutiny on the Bounty was one of my favorite movies.

My sister in-law said the power is out in cape may where she lives, the phone was breaking up also.

there is A Lot of flooding she told sue on a 5 min phone call, sue is going to call her, and my family tomorrow, to see how everyone is.

I just measured the current path to her house, and center of the track will pass 1.7 miles south of her house.

my wife's brother's house is 0.9 miles south of the current track. Sue has another sister that lives near him.

My mom and dads house is 24 miles north of the current track.

My sisters house is 15 miles north of the current track.

I am not sure where my brother lives but I think it is about 17-18 miles north of the current track

My family said no damage, but the power was out at my brother in-laws house, not sure if it is back on yet. I seen some video footage of Ocean city, NJ and it looks bad.
