[Edit -- MC18 won a third award. ]

Here's a newsletter that will go out this week.

Jim

---

Our very best holiday greetings to you and your family.

We sure have a lot to celebrate. You, the best users in the world, and an ever-improving product have given us one heck of a year and it doesn’t seem to be letting up.

JRiver was recently chosen as a "Best of 2012" product by HomeTheaterReview.com and we've just learned that JRiver was also chosen "Writers' Choice Awards for 2012" by Positive Feedback Online. We're extremely grateful for these awards. You can find the complete list of reviews here: http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Reviews

JRiver Media Center 18 is Ready to Go and Better Than Ever
We recommend switching to MC18 now. We've done 100 builds of the new version. It's safe to use. Here are the features (so far):
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=74442.0

Upgrade for $24 (10% Savings)
If you'd like to purchase an upgrade, please follow the instructions here: http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Upgrade_to_MC18

ZoneSwitch and Loudness
Two good examples of new features. Send specific content to a different zone with different settings. Or play your audio at lower volumes with a boost provided by the "Loudness" switch.

MC18 Updates may be free
If you've already purchased MC18, you can download the latest build of MC18 and install it free of charge. No need to uninstall. Your data is preserved.

The Fastest Player is Now Even Faster
At build 95, we switched to a new Microsoft compiler that gave JRiver Media Center about a 5% increase in speed. This is in addition to the constant improvements made in performance.

MAC OSX Version Soon
We've been working on a Mac version of JRiver Media Center. You can read about the progress here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=75129.0

As part of the work, we've built a Mac version of our new HDtracks Downloader. You can download it here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=75151.0

Improved Red October Video
Thanks in part to the great work of nevcairiel (LAV author) and madshi (madVR author), our video support has continued to improve. MC now supports DVD playback using Red October HQ. For all video formats, JRiver Media Center is the highest quality video player available on a PC, with full subtitle support.

Theater View TV
Version 18 organizes your TV Series by Program, Season, and Episode to make it easy to find what you want. It also improves captions, making them more informative and fully customizable.

If you haven't used Theater View, give it a try. Hit the F11 key a couple of times. It's a great interface for viewing from across the room, especially suitable for use with one of the many remote controls available: http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Remotes

Windows 8 and Surface
Windows 8 is out now and JRiver Media Center 18 works well with it. Surface RT, Microsoft's new tablet is not the same, so regular Windows programs won't run on it. We believe that Surface Pro should run MC and other Windows apps.

Android Support
Android continues to grow and MC's Gizmo works well with all the latest versions. You can use MC to sync your files to the phones and tablets. Video playback works well, with several bandwidth choices.

DSD
JRiver Media Center 18 now offers DSD encoding and general DSD support that works with the leading hardware.

You can find high quality audio content at web sites like Channel Classics and Blue Coast Records. More here: http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/DSD_Format

Upgrade Now
If you don't own MC18, you can save 10% now.

Thanks
It was a great year for JRiver, thanks to you. We wish you a very Happy New Year.

Thanks Again
I've written most of our newsletters, but I've signed them on behalf of JRiver. This time I'm signing my own name and adding this personal note. I started JRiver in 1981. It's been a lot of fun and very rewarding. But I'm getting older, slower, and dumber, so I've turned over the leadership role to Matt Ashland, our CTO. I plan to continue to work and to assist Matt and JRiver, but I'll be around a little less. You can read more here:

Best regards,

Looks good. I have a few comments:

Zone Switch - ZoneSwitch is one word

play your audio at lower volumes with a boost - I would add "to lower frequencies"

JRiver Media Center now offers DSD encoding - Is it correct to say "encoding"?

I'm getting older, slower, and dumber - Dumber means unable to speak. I think you intended to say "smarter."

The wiki should include new features like ZoneSwitch and Loudness.

18.0.63 (10/25/2012)
NEW: Added DSD encoder with support for 1x and 2x DSD stored in a DSF file (encoding uses 64-bit data path, JRiver's audiophile-grade upsampler, and 7th order noise shaping + dither).

Re:Media Center 18 upgrade problem

Downloaded MC18 Dec 21 to upgrade from MC17 purchased in Oct 2012. When I click on MC icon it reads MC18 when Media Center opens heading says MC 17. There are two time elapsed bars one on top of the other which make it difficult to read the main display info and spectrum analyzer. I have removed and installed MC18 twice to attempt to correct the problem. All the other features appear to work flawlessly.

Thank you,
Julio

Welcome.  It sounds like you're running MC17, not MC18.  Maybe you're clicking on the MC17 desktop icon.

Try running it from the Windows Start Menu.

Thank you, I  completely removed MC17 from the PC and yes I started it directly from programs and still have the problem with a dual track progress bar one on top of another now it says MC10!

Thank you
