Would you please; PLEASE; fix MJ so it won't "buffer" so much; OR advise me on what needs to be done with my machine/setup.
When it starts buffering repeatedly, at some point and time I get the nasty message that the program has committed an illegal operation and that it would be shut down. And it shuts itself down, exits MJ. It's not easy to restart the computer at this point; you cannot shut it down with the normal keystrokes. Generally you have to just turn power off and let it set for a while. As you know this method of shut down is not recommended because it can scramble files etc.

Again; please help out on this situation cause as it is, the program is more of a nuisance than enjoyment for me.

Shotgun2: I had this same problem, and it turned out to be a hardware problem with the sound card. Could this be the case for you?

Thanks gately & King Sparta. I'll look into this and see what I can find out. I do know that the sound is built into the mother-board. Seems like I investigated this a long time ago but I really just don't remember.

Make sure you have the latest fixes for Windows installed.  Run IE and do Tools/Windows Update.

Well, I had loaded latest driver off of Yamaha DX-XG driver page last January 12th and had forgotten about it. I re-installed it anyway but I have the same problem still.

JimH -- I believe I have but I'll recheck just to make sure on latest Windows Updates. That's where I got the IE 6 download.

For me, it was really a hardware failure. It worked fine until I blew a circuit breaker (started the vacuum cleaner with both computers and monitors on, and the pool table light and ...), and then I got this behavior. I thought it was the beta, but after a lot of testing, it was the power surge frying something small in the card.

I have this same problem - play a couple of songs- starts buffering- sound gets "choppy" -MJ crashes. I had this same problem back a couple of versions ago, but the problem went away with one of the new vesions - I can't remember which one.

I downloaded the latest Windows updates as suggested.

Eh, guys, I have keyboard problems, so hopefully I'll be able to have wife get me a new one tomorrow and I shall return. Afraid it's more than peanut butter & crackers under the keys.

Good to hear.  I spilled a beer on my keyboard once.  Decided, "Heck, it's wet anyway.  I'll give it a bath."  Put it under the faucet for a bit, shook it out and laid it upside down over night.  The next day it worked fine.

Same problems as Pythius and Shotgun. MJ will run through a playlist Ok for up to 1 hr.  /-, then start buffering for a brief while before crashing with the same general protection fault message (Dibeng.dll). This build is a little better than the earlier ones - think this problem began appearing sometime around 8.0.212 (?), but I really didn't keep track.

MS says that this is a function of incompatibility between the video driver and (presumably) the program that triggers it. My driver (Intel 740 9x) is up-to-date. Following the MS workaround brought me a bit of grief. IE 5.5 with all updates and service patches installed. Tried installing a new Dibeng.dll (whatever that is), but didn't seem to change things.

Doesn't seem to affect other programs or Windows however. Everything else continues to run excpet MJ.

Had another problem like this on first run with 224. I boned it though and didn't paste the error message. But it said there was an error in playback.dll

hi everyone - well we installed a new keyboard but MJ still does not play music without committing the proverbial sin and shuts itself down. If it's any consolation to you (sure isn't to me); now Windows Media and Winamp won't work either. They won't load files and start. The only program that will play back my CD's now (on the computer) is MusicMatchand I don't really like it cause of it's limited tone range; besides that MJ burned CD's just plainly sound better.

Well, I'm devastated and tired of the whole mess, kinda like the kid on tv that comes in from school expecting his video to be loaded and it ain't, so he chunks everything out the window.

One thing I find very interesting is that MJ still burns CD's as well as always; it still says that the is no CD in the burner drive when there is. Labeling program works pretty well; still needs some improvements.

Tried going back to some of the earlier releases but I can't load them or start them. Keep getting a notice that MJ wasn't able to register files correctly or something like that. First time I've ever seen that but it really doesn't matter cause I wouldn't want to run any of the previous builds forever. Just thought that I could find what build this problem of excess buffering started. I just know that earlier I didn't have this problem; but I can't prove it.

So anyhow's guys, I'm still counting very heavily on you guiding me through this difficult problem.

Alright guys, wake up and smell the roses!

I may have accidentally stumbled across something so you may have less headaches and I might not have to buy a new processor, mother board, or whatever. Will please my wife immensely!

Added some time between playing tracks. Was done over three sessions cause I had no idea of what would happen.

So far been able to play almost 40 minutes of selected music and just over 30 minutes of playing a digital CD. I'm just elated.

Feedback and discussions gladly welcomed.

Could it be that my processor is just too slow when it's loaded down?

Please understand one thing: MJ is still buffering from time to time but it's buffering in the time 1 song finishes and the next one starts playing. Previously, it was buffering after a song started playing and everything got messed up.

So,you adjusted the playback option from cross-fade to standard and/or increased the length of the gap? Or is it something else?

HTH - You got it except I was not running cross fade but standard. I put in 1 sec delay and then I changed the Immediate settings to slower settings.

Go figgur. Was working great last night before going to bed. But, alas, wouldn't work at all. Messed with it several hours and found I could get it to working again by slowing the start of the hard drives to give them a chance to initialize before starting. This helped but it's only partially fixed, but at least the computer and MJ is going again. MJ has just performed an illegal operation and shut down again. Was listening to some soothing classical guitar stuff while writing this.

Well, I just don't know. Spend hours chasing the illusive rabit only to find that it works differently after shutdown and re-boot.

So, I'm downloading .226 and gonna try it. Didn't see anything in the long list of fixes/changes that looked like it pertains to problems I'm having, but I will see if it helps anyway.

JimH - why don't you come home and guide your floundering company instead of extensively touring again? Just wondering.
