JRiver changed my album art?
« on: January 17, 2014, 07:57:22 am »

For some reason JRiver has changed my album art on a few albums, how can I stop it from doing this?
The albums have been in the library for a few days now so why has it suddenly decided to change the album art?

JRiver won't change your art.  It only adds art when none is there.  WHS and old versions of WMP did do that.

The wiki has a topic on cover art.

Thats what I thought Jim, but this morning my ''Devils Trill'' art looked like this,

And now it looks like this,

I didnt do anything manually to change this, nor do I use any other media programs.

I have just checked the folder in my library for this album and the original is still there, but the new replacement isnt. Where is it coming from?

Edit - I have just checked the tag ''image file'' and instead of the usual ''folder jpg'' it now reads a file path from media centre ''appdata/roaming/jriver media centre/cover art...

Now this is strange, I restarted JR and got this warning.
The files are read only, so I changed the folder via right click on the folder, properties , ''uncheck'' attributes in the read only box and hit OK, Vista looks as if it is making the changes to the folder by asking permission etc etc however when I go back into properties the read only box is checked again, any ideas?

Not only that, but I shudder at the thought of what that second recording sounds like.

Certainly, if you recopy the file you want and use the "Paste from internet" command, you should have no further problems.

I actually tend to run new rips by the free program mp3tag. Once album art is chosen, it is actually encoded in the file and cannot be trumped. JRiver can do this too, but with mp3tag, I find I have more data libraries to chose from and so all my tracks have basically been processed through that program, including embedded art which I know for sure has been embedded. JRiver has amazing tools to edit those tags afterwards though, cleaning them up, finding and replacing, funky things with expressions, etc ...

Just my two cents

You can open the tag window, click on the album art and use a right click to copy it to the clipboard, then paste wherever you want.

Saving the cover art in the file's tag is an option in MC.

I opened JRiver as an administrator and it seems to help with the locked folder issue in Vista, I think perhaps JR lost connection with my library (on a stand alone HD) and decided there was no album art so it must have gone a looked for some, its the only explination I can think of.

Its painfull enough to look at never mind thinking about how it might sound. I'll check out mp3tag, thanks.
