Author Topic: Gizmo & Library Server Access - Can only connect to one copy of JRiver  (Read 2631 times)

I have 2 versions of JRiver running in my house. One on my PC and one on my laptop. They are both using the same license key.

From my Android, using Gizmo, I can connect just fine to my PC Library. No custom configuration was required within JRiver in order for me to access the library. However, I have failed to connect to my laptop in exactly the same manner as my PC. I constantly receive this message after the maximum amount of tries:

"There was a problem connecting to the server. Please double-check that you have entered the correct key, and that the server and your connection are working."

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Did you restore the same library on both PCs? It could be that they both have the same media network access key, and there's a conflict. On the laptop, go to Options>Media Network>

If the Access Key is the same as on your PC then you will have to reset it on the laptop.

Alternatively, there may be something set up in your laptop's firewall/anti-virus preventing access. If you wish to access from outside your home network, be sure to also forward the correct port on your router, corresponding to your laptop's IP address too.

I didn't perform any library restores. I have my videos on and my laptop and my music on my PC. The access key is different on my laptop.

I have no intentions of accessing my library from outside my home network. My firewall is not blocking anything. I have the same Anti-Virus on my laptop as my PC, both configured the same.

Should I also try and reset my access code even though it is different to my PC's code? I'm running out of ideas here.

Thanks

All the Access Key does is obtain the (possibly dynamic) IP address of the server.  For this system to work, please note that:
* The Server and the Client must have an active (working) Internet connection
* JRiver's servers must be working properly (they are now)

If you want to see what IP addresses JRiver has about your server, you just need to visit this web page:
http://webplay.jriver.com/libraryserver/lookup?id=<YOUR ACCESS KEY HERE>

Assuming that you visit the page, and it shows the proper, current addresses of your Server, then the issue has to be inside your Network (either improper subnet routing or firewall issues, in almost all cases).  Please note that this requires the Server to be able to receive traffic on the MCWS Port.  I posted more info on this recently over here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=88071.msg603676#msg603676

If the IP addresses listed when you visit the Library Server lookup page are incorrect, then most likely the Server's internet connection isn't working, or the connection it makes to update the Access Key records is being blocked.

As a hint, in some configurations it can be helpful to use different ports for the two library servers in the same network. So for example increase or decrease the port in media network settings on one of the servers.

Yes! I do this always too. My router seemed to like this a lot better.

I have checked http://webplay.jriver.com/libraryserver/lookup?id= with my access key and the details are correct. I will have to trawl through your thread and hope for the best.

I have gone into my router settings and opened 52198-52199. I am using 52199 for my PC and 52198 for my laptop. However, I'm still not able to connect  :(

Thanks

This might help:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Network_Access

If you're connecting from your LAN, no changes should be needed on your router.

If you're connecting from outside your LAN, you must tell your router to forward the port used to one machine (your local IP address).

I'm connecting (and will only ever be) on my LAN. Will check that link out... Thanks.

It can also be the software firewall on Windows...

One thing to try is to turn the Windows Firewall off entirely.  If this works, then you'll need to make an inbound port exception in Windows for the firewall to allow the traffic in.

I've tried everything but still no joy  :-\

Would one of you mind connecting to my computer via rdp to have a look?  I can give you my credentials via a private message.

We don't do that.

If it is a firewall problem, turning it off may not be enough.   Try uninstalling bitdefender.

Just uninstalled and rebooted, double checked that Windows firewall is still turned off. Still can't connect.

Next step?

Edit: Is it worth me reinstalling MC19?
