License problem

I'm getting "There was a problem restoring the license"  Error details: There was a problem communicating with the license server.

This is on Debian Jessie 64.

I don't know why should you need to restore a license? If you were running a current 20 it should just work.
There was work done in the https area but I'd be  bit surprised if it caused this.

I rolled back to .13, got the license put in and upgraded back to .17.  I had been running on a trial for 30+ days.

I had no difficulty restoring the license on .13.

Just deleted and re-entered my license in 20.0.17 without any issue.
If you are entering it in the popup box upon start, it does need to be able to reach our license server.
Otherwise you can install it from the command line with a .mjr file.

I have the same issue with the latest release on Linux Mint 17 - problem communicating with license server.

As a workaround (in case anyone else runs into this issue) I used the mjr file with this command:

It seems there are still some https/ssl issues, especially on non-debian platforms.
On non-debian systems there needs to be a hashed /etc/ssl/certs directory or a certfile.

I'm having the same problem on Ubuntu Studio (14.04 LTS).  I had to reinstall my OS because deleting the earlier Ubuntu build files (as instructed on the Ubuntu support site when getting a "disc full" error message during an OS update) resulted in an inability to boot. I've now used up 3 of my 10 annual restores and gotten the same key each time.  But double-clicking the mjr file only opens it, and entering my permanent reg code produces the same problem error message each time.  I'm down to 6 reinstalls for the year - what do I do to enter my reg code?

As a workaround for those with automated restore issues:

Save the license file which is attached to the email you receive when you use up a restore.

From a terminal, navigate to the directory where you saved the license file and use the following command to restore your license, change the filename within the quotes to your own saved filename:

mediacenterXX /RestoreFromFile "Media Center20 Linux-YYYYYY.mjr"

Where XX == to MC's version number (ie, 19 or 20) and YYYYY == to the number in your license filename.

MC should print a line saying that the license was restored succesfully.

If you run out of restores due to this issue, someone at JRiver can reset them for you, just make a post with this request (preferably a new thread with a descriptive title).

...and it did - thanks!  Unfortunately I'm now down to 6 restores for the year, although I do have 4 copies of the same mjr file to show for my efforts  :).  How do I determine the number of remaining months until I once again have a full complement of 10?

I know I shouldn't need them, but stuff happens - I didn't expect cleaning up my old Ubuntu files to render the OS non-functional either. And I didn't expect a disk-full error during a routine Software Center update. So we live and learn.

I'm not sure when they reset but, see my last sentence in my previous post, they'll replenish your restores early if need be ;)

They are added a year after you use them.  We don't reset them unless you run out.
