JRiver Media Center 20.0.55 for Windows -- Available Here
« on: January 13, 2015, 04:03:30 pm »

This is the latest version of MC20.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted.

Download: [Build pulled by JimH]  Using Audio Mode resets views to defaults.  Restore a backup if you have this problem.]

20.0.55 (1/13/2015)

1. Fixed: Using [Channels] and [Sample Rate] in the player display area didn't work for videos.
2. Changed: Updated French translation (thanks p.v.).
3. Fixed: Skin Manager was an available toolbar button even though the skin manager has been retired.
4. NEW: MC will import many tags in wtv / dvr-ms (Microsoft Windows Media Center TV recordings) files.
5. Changed: Television has been moved to the root of the tree.
6. NEW: Added an option 'Audio Only Mode' in the View menu.
7. Fixed: Television channel scanning did not work in some locations in recent builds.
8. Fixed: Changing country selection in television options did not take effect in recent builds.

20.0.54 (1/9/2015)

1. Changed: Updated Japanese translation (thanks Kazuo!).
2. Fixed: DLNA: DSD files > 1X when used with the DoPE switch were getting the sample rate wrong so the file duration would be short (1/2, 1/4, etc).
3. Fixed: Chromium engine was not working properly on 20.0.53.

20.0.53 (1/8/2015)

1. NEW: Theater View artist backdrops load from the entire list of artists for a track instead of only the first artist.
2. Fixed: DLNA, missing xml namespace for the peak level and replay gain jriver specific fields. Caused trouble with other DLNA devices and controllers seeing our DLNA devices(ie BubbleUPnP).
3. Changed: The jriver namespace fields from jr: to jriver: to match the previous use of presenting the access key. A side effect of this is that all builds in use must be greater than 20.0.52 to use the volume leveling feature(this is only useful on a MC renderer from a MC server NOT doing conversion).
4. Changed: The spacebar isn't translated as play / pause when a list control has the focus.
5. Changed: Updated to the latest version of the Chromium engine for webpages.

20.0.52 (1/6/2015)

1. Changed: Updated Korean translation (thanks Junghwan Oh!).
2. Changed: Updated Greek translation (thanks LLannis!).
3. Fixed: The example text on the license restore dialog was not translatable.
4. Changed: Updated French translation (thanks p.v.).
5. Changed: Updated Chinese language files (thanks kelijun!).
6. Fixed: A couple of menu items in DLNA Controller Options were not translated.
7. Changed: Marked a few more strings as translatable.
8. Fixed: Using the Space key in a Web Browser control will no longer pause playback.
9. Fixed: Possible problems with video views specific to build 51.

20.0.51 (1/5/2015)

1. Fixed: Add Library > Browse would open the folder dialog in a non-modal way so that a second browse dialog could be opened (or worse).
2. Fixed: Updated the bundled Black on Black and Pearl Bailey skins to the latest version to resolve an incompatibility with recent skinning changes.
3. Fixed: DLNA: MC could crash when a DLNA view with multiple WMA files was requested (since 20.0.49).
4. Changed: Slightly improved rendering performance in Theater View list flows on Intel GPUs.
5. Changed: The Release Year is taken into account when acquiring Theater View background artwork for movies.
6. Changed: During import, the matching entry from TheMovieDB is selected based on the release year, if available.
7. NEW: Added the web service function MCWS/v1/Podcast/Delete to delete a Podcast by name.
8. Changed: The service registers its filename with quotes around it ( fixes a possible exploit http://www.commonexploits.com/unquoted-service-paths/ ).
9. Changed: Removed the option for fullscreen exclusive mode in Theater View.
10. Fixed: The image width and height fields didn't fill properly if the cover art was an external file.
11. NEW: Added MCWS/v1/File/Delete to remove a file from the library.
12. NEW: Added MCWS/v1/Configuration/ErrorFreeMode to set the program into error free mode.
13. NEW: Made writing the tool name and version optional in Options > Audio > Advanced (it's strongly recommended that you leave this enabled).

20.0.50 (12/17/2014)

1. Changed: The Swap(...) expression has special handling for strings that end with Jr., Sr., I, II, III, IV, V.
2. Changed: Updated French translation (thanks p.v.).
3. Changed: Cover Art > Add From File opens at the location of the file instead of at the last folder used (but only if the folder contains at least one image).
4. Fixed: MC did not scan for program map table when playing clear QAM television channels, causing problems recording in .TS format.
5. Changed: For ATSC and QAM television channels, MC will try alternative ways to find audio and video packet IDs in case the usual method fails.
6. Changed: The space bar shortcut for play/pause is not translated in Theater View so that the search in some views works.
7. Changed: WebGizmo views say WebGizmo instead of Gizmo.
8. Fixed: DLNA: The new delete dynamic libraries functions was slow (generating too many M-SEARCHes).
9. Changed: Action Windows that are editing a playlist have a 'Click to view playlist' button at the bottom (the title text is also a clickable link).
10. Fixed: Importing CUE files would not reliably import the first track.
11. Changed: Empty playlists that have the name "New Playlist" or "New Smartlist" are purged when the program loads.
12. Fixed: The Image Width and Image Height fields were marked as hidden so that they wouldn't show up in a Smartlist.
13. Changed: Updated Chinese language files (thanks kelijun).

Slight conflict with View\Audio Only mode - when disabling this mode, it reactivates the previously disabled TV option under Options/General/Features. I dont have a tuner card in my desktop and generally keep this feature disabled.

6. Added an option 'Audio Only Mode'

I test it few minute before back normal mode and all my video view restore to default like fresh install :o.

I think u should to add cancel button to Audio Only Mode dialog after click.
And add auto backup library too.

It's going to override whatever settings you've done to the features section.

That's just part of the deal.

NEW: Added an option 'Audio Only Mode' in the View menu.   -   I like this.

I checked it not fully knowing what it was,  I'm like that, if there's a big red button that says 'DON'T PUSH THIS!'. Yep, I'm gonna push it.

I've no need to go back, because audio only is just want I wanted.  But it would be good to know that if I did uncheck it, that it would remember my exact settings from before pushing it and try at least to restore them.

Would that be a useful option to have.  Have it do a back up quickly upon first press, so it can easily revert back.

4. NEW: MC will import many tags in wtv / dvr-ms (Microsoft Windows Media Center TV recordings) files.
Thanks again for adding this.  As I mentioned in the thread for this, I've run some tests with this and it's working pretty well, but I just noticed a minor issue with date handling.  I've got a few recordings that have what appears to be a default value for the WM/MediaOriginalBroadcastDateTime tag:

0001-01-01T00:00:00Z

It looks like MC is treating that date as January 1, 2001 when it populates the date tag.  I would suggest that when this value is encountered, you use the file creation date/time to populate the date tag instead, if possible.  If you need a sample file to work with, let me know and I can make one available, but it will be a full length recording, meaning 8+ gigabytes to download.

3. Fixed: Skin Manager was an available toolbar button even though the skin manager has been retired.
This seems to have also removed the "Skin Effects" options from the skins menu, so I cannot invert the skin at night.

On that note, direct access to skin inversion via a toolbar button would be so much more convenient.
And better yet, being able to switch it on a timer. (say 8pm-8am)

6. NEW: Added an option 'Audio Only Mode' in the View menu.
While I assume this is the reason that 20.0.55 was pulled:
  • Doesn't seem to belong in the view menu. (it's not a view - it's a permanent library change)
  • Should warn the user that it will remove all library customizations relating to video (and video files?) from the library.
  • If it is going to be a destructive option, it should ask for confirmation twice. First with the warning, second with "Are you really sure?"
  • If you have to restore a backup to undo the option, it should automatically create a backup first. Then you won't be left having to restore a backup which is several days old.
  • Is it really necessary to remove all video/other features from the library, rather than simply hiding them from the tree?
I thought this was going to be a useful "party mode" option which would hide non-audio views beyond what a restricted user sees. (i.e. the views are still there, they're just empty - and hiding them is a change that I'd also like to see, but one thing at a time...)

5. Fixed: Volume protection would override the startup volume setting.  Now startup volume has precedence.
Startup Volume is still being set to 20 with Volume Protection enabled.

I can't reproduce this.  The startup volume trumps the 20% for me.  Tips?

Me neither.

Maybe it's the time-based component of volume protection kicking in?  It resets to 20% after a certain amount of time has passed, which would defeat the startup volume in a zone if you don't play to it immediately?

Actually, startup volume does not appear to be working at all.

If I try it in another zone which does not have Volume Protection enabled, it just stays at the previous level, rather than the defined startup volume.

EDIT: Startup Volume is setting the initial volume level when I close and restart MC. Not when I start playback in a zone.

Unless I misread you, that's my understanding of how the feature is supposed to work (startup=program startup, not playback startup).

Huh, I could have sworn that there used to be a separate option for that in the "Startup" section of the options, and that the per-zone option was for starting playback after being idle.
So yes, Startup Volume "works" with Volume Protection if you begin playback right after launching MC.

If that zone has been idle for 30+ minutes (which is the case 99% of the time for my AirPlay Zone) Volume Protection kicks in and starts playback at 20% volume.
I thought Startup Volume was supposed to set the starting level for Volume Protection. (or playback if VP is disabled)

Edit: The wiki confirms that there used to be an option in the startup section: http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Volume#Startup_Volume
I'm not sure if this was a separate control, or if it was just changed from being a global option to a per-zone one.

There was a separate global option that was recently removed because it duplicated and conflicted with the zone-specific startup options.

I agree that a per-zone option does make a lot more sense than a global one for that.
It seems like Volume Protection should use the zone's Startup Volume rather than a fixed 20% though?

20% is far too quiet, but I still want to prevent the volume suddenly hitting 100% and deafening everyone.

View Refresh does not fully reset view. It leaves any selection made in Tiles, thus after reset View will display e.g. 1 Album (12 Files 72mb).

I have looked into this. The startup volume for a zone is initially set as expected (eg: 50%). If you play to a previously idle zone (over ~30mins idle), the volume will reset to volume protection level of 20% at start of actual playback, negating the value of startup volume for that zone.

Preview mode isn't working for me.  I tried setting to first 10 or 30 seconds of song and it shows :10 / :10 for a second but when the song starts, it reverts back to the full song length.

Hi
I recently purchased MC 20 but couldn't convert any audio file to any format.
Is there a block or it must only be ripped from original CD?
Cheers

for  JRiver Media Center 20.0.52:

In Tag window Tools option doesn't work property.

"Show Default View" for Media Type=Video\Media Sub Type=Movie files show Episode and Season fields - "Date-Episode-Genre-Name-Season". Switch to
"Show Tags in Current View" remove Episode and Season and add Artist (??) and few other fields, and doesn't show my current view columns names/fields. Now its "Name-Artist-Keywords-Date-Genre-Bitrate-Filename". Strange choice for Video\Movie View.

This bug has returned for Video files: existing files with duplicate file path/filename imported 2x. You can see the expression that they are being treated as unique items by MC, but in fact are the same file. Effected files reside on mapped drive sitting on NAS.

"The FileKey is the unique key per-file in MC.  It is generated on import, and remains for the life of the file.  There should never be two identical FileKeys nor Filename values.  So your results would indicate there is some corruption in the library, or even a remote chance of some rare bug."

I have mentioned this before, but....
When a radio stream has been paused (such as via JRemote which does not have a stop button) but not stopped....
Output to JRiver audio driver (e.g. via Spotify) doesn't work and generally either requires a restart of JRiver MC or sometimes a reboot!
Please fix this. It is absolutely reproducible and frustrating.
