Upgrading from MC 9.0 to MC 9.1 (Guidelines)
« on: October 08, 2003, 04:19:52 am »

Hi,

First of all my congratulations to Jim and the delevelopers team at JRiver for the new release. Also a big "thank you" to the rest of the family at Interact for having decisively contributed to this new version by beta-testing it.

Now, my small request  ;)

Probably I'm not the only one who is still running 9.0 and would like to upgrade to the new release of 9.1. Some of us don't feel comfortable with beta products and upgrade only when Jim announces that it's final release.

It would be great for all of us fear-beta versions to have a concise guidelines or check-list in order to make the transition from 9.0 to 9.1 the smoothest possible.

Something like.... (example):

-------

1.- Backup your library first.
2.- Install the new version from within Media Center using the check for upgrades feature.
3.- You will not lose your customized library fields.
4.- You will lose your smartlists. If you want to keep them do the following....
5.- You will lose your plug-ins (DSP, etz.) Make sure to reinstall them.
6.- 9.0 track info pages will not work with 9.1. Download the new ones here ......
7.- Double-check all your settings once the upgrade is installed, especially encoding, library settings,....  They may have been reverted to default with the new installation.

and so....

(this is only an example and is not based on actual facts at all)

------

Would someone do this check-list / guidelines? Thanks in advance.

I think that this would be very helpful to most of us. Not everybody has followed up the development in the forum and things that were discussed or seem obvious for the besta-testers may not be so for the rest of us.

Thanks for your time... and enjoy :)

I haven't upgraded yet either -

Seriously - what could go wrong?  I am a positive person - but I would like to know what potentially could happen....

OK... Just did it... and NO HASSLES so far!! Nothing seems to be lost... plug-ins, smartlists, everything seems to be there  :) (not view schemes but that's another story)

First impression from someone coming from 9.0... 9.1 is GREAT!! I Love the panes!

Just playing around with 9.1 a lttle tonight.

Thank you very much.

David,
Glad it's working.  Just right click on Playing Now to copy to the clipboard.

Great! Thank you, Jim.

By the way, just noticed some itching in my wet foot... hope it's not related to the upgrade though  :)
