Moving movies to other folders and creating new folders
« on: April 01, 2015, 06:41:29 pm »

Please excuse these questions on what is likely a very simple procedure.

How do I move movies (or other media) to other folders and how do I create custom folders?

Thanks for the help.

adding some detail:

I have several shows that are in the Movies folder that I want in the TV shows folder instead.

I also want to create a new folder that would hold my work related videos.

Try editing the tag called "Media Sub-Type".

Very Helpful.  How do I add a media sub type such as "Work Videos" to the list of possible choices?  I did manage to add a folder by adding a library view.

You can't add Media Sub-Types.  They have special treatment in MC.

You might be able to solve your problem another way.  Try adding something in the Comment field or similar, then filtering by that.

Thanks for the help.

What I do, is (step 1) I create the new folder first using Window Explorer, then (step 2) I select the file (movie) in the Standard View by right clicking on it which brings up the menu with "Library Tools" and then (step 3) select the "Rename, Move & Copy Files" tool in the popup window. This tool will allow you to select a movie and move it to a new destination.  You use the "Rename" part of the tool (which also moves the file whenever the location changes). Then you check the box "Directories" and (step 4) select the new location using the Browse button. Since you would have already created the new folder (in step 1), it will show on the listing of destination folder locations. The preview window will show the current file path and the new file path. If it is what you want, you click "Okay".

Also: if you want to change a "Movie" media-sub-type to "TV Show", you do this by editing the file's Tag. The way I do it, is first you need to see the tag "media sub type" in the Standard View. You can add it by right clicking on the column header and slecting it form the list that displays. Then you select the movie (file) you want to edit bu clicking on its Row. Then you press F2 key to enter edit mode. You move to different tags/fields on the Row using Tab and ShiftTab. Once your on the Tag/field "media sub type", you can change it.

Very Helpful.  Thank you.

I realized what I was thinking of as folders under video is actually a new library view and once I figured out how to set that up to only show certain keywords, I was home free.

thanks again for the help.
