I really enjoy the new WDM driver, so I think it could do more better and replace the original directsound someday.
1. I really hope that the WDM driver could automatically open MC when a Ipc sound comes.
2. After the Ipc plays, there is a small delay before MC play another Ipc, so the driver couldn't play sound smoothly when holding backspace in a text field like notepad.
3. I'm not sure if the WDM driver could merge sound like the system does, through the ASIO with DSP effects? So we could hear other system sound when listening music.

In MC's options for Startup, set it to run Media Server on Windows start.

I'm not having any luck with this option. When it's set, MC 20 inserts the following:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\Media Center 20\Media Center 20.exe" /Boot

This runs the full program, not just the Media Server. What's the correct command line?

This is the proper command line. It will run whatever mode is selected in the options. The Media Server icon will set in the system tray, but the GUI will not start.

Regarding the driver starting MC automatically, I fear this is practically impossible. Drivers cannot start an application.
We could setup a separate service or something that watches the driver and starts MC when needed, but at that point you might as well use the Media Server solution that Jim suggested.

For #2 I agree. I wish we could set the "idle" time for the WDM driver.
It just seems to stop instantly here, and doesn't start again for several seconds.
If I seek when playing a YouTube video in a web browser, I lose sound for probably 20 seconds due to this behavior.
 
 
As for #3, that's nothing to do with the WDM driver. You need to disable exclusive mode if you want to hear system sounds playing at the same time as music.
Keep in mind that you have to disable bitstreaming and resample all audio to a fixed rate for this to work though.
The easy solution is to use DirectSound rather than WASAPI, as it does this automatically - though it's potentially higher quality if you use WASAPI with exclusive mode disabled and have MC handle resampling.
