Has responsiveness improved since version 20?
« on: September 19, 2015, 11:24:33 am »

One of the reasons I ditched JRiver Media Center (version 20) was because it was nowhere near as snappy as MPC-HC + LAV Filters + madVR + ReClock setup. Has this changed in version 21? Version 20 was not slow, but not as snappy for sure. The actual playback performance was not a problem, but going from one menu to another menu, switching things around, etc. had 1-2 second delays.

I have a decent PC - Intel i7 3770K @ 4.8Ghz, 16GB RAM, GTX 980, 256GB SSD, WD fast HDD's, and now Windows 10. I keep my PC clean, updated, and optimized. There is no reason for any media theater application to be slow on my PC.

A 1 to 2 second delay isn't normal.  I don't know of a chronic problem with speed in MC20 or MC21.  It's easy for you to try though.

I came on here to post about JRiver being slow. Expect it only started to be slow after madVR was running. It runs fine when I first start the program, start a movie and madVR starts, hit stop on the movie once it's finished and go back to theater view and it's running slowly like madVR is still running even though all content is stopped.

Was thinking it has to do either my settings being wrong on madVR.

Try Red October Standard.  If that works, then the problem may be with madVR.

If you modified madVR settings, change the settings back.

I suspect the OPs problem is that MC20 was running various other things - importing, analyzing audio, downloading thumbnails/info, etc.

I don't get 2 second delays on a PC with 1/100th the processor and RAM of the OP's PC.

Or an antivirus program

Most general performance issues I've seen are due to Anti-Virus software interference. But, for anyone here, it is worth going through the Troubleshooting Guide. I've collected a LOT of wisdom there on issues just like these:

To be clear, what is described by the OP is not normal. MC flies through menus and views on my systems, even those much less powerful. My main server is nearly identical to the described system (except my video card is older and less powerful) and I have absolutely no issues or delays opening views (except for a rare few views I've made that do extremely complex calculations, but that's my own fault).
