Hi There

I have read articles on large analogue file sizes , 1GB per minute which I have and have tried to convert as per your instructions but they don't work.
CPU was running at 48% , I ended task for malware program, it went back to 2%, disabled most start up programs and it converted once, but ever since no go.

Please find your instructions below.

Your malware program could be slowing or blocking the process.  There is no need for it to check media files.

G'Day Tom. You are an Aussie like myself by the look of it? Welcome to the forum.

I assume you are referring to my post here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=105793.0

I'm just a user like you, and wrote that because I had been looking for an easy way to convert JTV files to TS (or some other useful format) for some time. So, no guarantees it is going to work, and in fact the DirectShow filters I used do have limitations.

So, let's look at what is going wrong. First, as Jim noted and you observed, obviously your malware software wasn't helping. Killing the software is one way to prevent that. Excluding all directories that just contain media files from analysis is another way. You might also get it to stop loading up the CPU by doing a full scan of the directories where the media files are before trying any conversion, although if you have "on access" analysis turned on, then it is probably still going to be an issue.

So first things first, what is the source of your file(s) that won't convert?

You say they are analogue files, but all TV in Australia is now digital, and if the files are in JTV format, then they must have been recorded from TV broadcasts, and hence be digital.

So could you download the MediaInfo program from https://sourceforge.net/projects/mediainfo/, install it, and open one of the problem files with it, display the results in Text format, and post them here.

RoderickGI's solution, in its simple form of Source Filter -> Multiplexer -> output, will only work for digital TV or any source that contains MPEG-2 video or similar.  For video captured from analog TV channels, you need to have separate MPEG-2 video compressor and audio compressor which JRiver does not have.  The DirectShow graph should look like this:

JTV Source filter --> MPEG-2 Video Compressor -->   MPEG-2
                       --> MPEG-2 Audio COmpressor -->  Multiplexer --> File writer.

Because there are no analogue TV channels in Australia any more, and it looks like Tom is in Australia, based on his email address.

I guess they could be recordings from a long time ago, and therefore be analogue. In which case, if Tom has the required DirectShow Video and Audio Compressor filters on his PC, he can just create a different GRF file and use that to convert these files. But if there are only a few, then it would be easier to leave my solution in place for current recordings, and convert the few files manually using Graph Studio Next.

It all depends on which capture device you use.  Colossus has hardware compression built into it, so its video is compressed already, but there are capture devices that do not have compression ability.

My initial impression was he was capturing analog TV channel using an analog TV card.  But it could be just a video capture card capturing non-TV video.  In any case, JTV can contain uncompressed video.
