Why I run two copies of MC instead of library/client
« on: December 23, 2016, 06:33:43 pm »

So, here's the thing. When I want to connect my second computer as a client to my main library, everything works well (i.e. the connection is almost instant and I am up and running). EXCEPT if I try to connect computer #2, and I don't have MC actually running on the host computer. Then, the shenanigans start. Computer #2 makes several attempts to connect, and I get an error report (no surprise here I suppose). I go and open MC on the first computer...same thing, several tries, error report. The only way to make this work is to physically go over and turn both computers off, start up #1, open MC, start computer #2, open MC. Why such a complicated deal? Am I missing something, or is all this turning on and off the only option? This is frustrating enough simply not to bother using a host/client set-up. (And yes, all I really have to do is first check that MC is running on computer #1, but it's in another room etc etc.)

Go to Options> Startup>Windows Startup>Run on Windows Startup:
Then choose either of the two options that include Media Server.

These options ensure that the components of MC that you need to access your media run in the background, even if MC isn't actively running on the server computer. It'll always work, unless MC crashes and needs a restart.
