I suspect this bug is related to the issue I'm reporting in the following topic: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,108803.0.html

I'm encountering a bug with the "Convert Format" tool when converting FLAC (or any other format for that matter) to ALAC. What happens is when I'm running the tool on a album of 10-15 tracks, I usually end up with 2-4* temporary files in the same folder.
The files are named very slightly differently, but they all follow the same format. Here's an example on what files are left being from a test FLAC->ALAC conversion I just did:

Temporary Convert File - 22404 (1).m4a
Temporary Convert File - 24196 (1).m4a

Note that I have the conversion tool set to replace the original files.

* The amount varies, but generally in that area on a regular album conversion job.

Try converting one at a time.

Try converting one at a time.

I just tried that, with the same result. Tried converting a 12-track album from ALAC to FLAC, and just as before this worked as expected. Then tried converting the same album back again to ALAC, and ended up with 2 temporary files remaining after the job completed.

Update: It appears to work more reliably on files stored locally. The problems appear to occur when the files are stored on my NAS, or any other network attached storage device I've tested with...

It sounds like it's related to the ALAC encoder.  It may not be thread safe.  Try doing one file at a time.

I don't know what happened, or when it did, but it used to be perfectly safe to do so. At one point I converted a few thousand FLAC encoded files to ALAC, 4 at a time on a network share, and not a single temporary file remained after the job was completed.

Now I've changed the settings to only convert 1 file at a time, but as I said previously the problem remains. I've attached a screenshot of my current settings.
