It seem I have trouble doing the simplest things.

I have ripped a bunch of CDs into a folder containing a named folder for each CD containing the files. 

When I try to import a single CD folder as by drag-and-drop, all I get in the library are the named files with no grouping into the CD.  If I try to import another CD the file list grows.  If I try to import the large folder containing all the CD folders, all I get is a long list of files in alphanumeric order but not grouped in any sensible way.

This would seem to be a simple thing to do.  Can you help please.
To summarize, I have a folder in which are folders for each CD containing the files for that CD.  How to I get these into the JRiver library?

Try ripping with MC.  No import is needed.

Perhaps for the future.  But I have a whole bunch of them already ripped.  Is there no way to get them in?

You will need to tag the files.  Artist and Album at minimum.  If the folders have the right names you can get the tags from the folder names

That is easily fixed, as long are you have consistently named the folders and files.

To expand on what Ferday said, you should use the "Fill properties from filename" Library Tool functionality using your own Template rather than the Automatic process.

The earlier suggestion, that I (re)rip all of my CDs was a non-starter.  Also could not work for (re)ripping SACDs.

You can't rip SACDs with a PC. You need a 1st gen PS3 (or a few SACD players which can be opened up to ripping).
