Remote access without access key?
« on: August 23, 2018, 09:05:50 pm »

In light of the recent security breach I would really like to be able to use the media network functions with gizmo or jremote without needing to use the access key. I would like to disable the access key feature all together so no info about what IP addresses I have MC servers running on is listed anywhere outside my network. I believe it is sort of possible now but only works if you have a static external IP that you can then point gizmo/jremote to(for external access). I have my own domain that I can have "something.mydomain.com" resolve to my dynamic IP but neither gizmo or jremote will let you use a domain name, only an ip address. I believe it would only take having gizmo/jremote be able to accept and resolve domains.

They already can resolve domain names. I recently changed JRemote over to using mysecretdomainname.ddns.net for my ISP dynamic IP.  Perhaps you havent configured port forwarding properly on your router?

In jremote when adding a new server it gives an option to use accesskey or IP address. If I select IP address and use my domain name, enter correct port and user/password and click the blue connect button it just says "IP Address missing or invalid" and trying gizmo just gives a message saying access key isn't valid and that advanced users can enter an IP address, it definitely isn't accepting a domain.

Ok JRemote can resolve domain names but there is a bug in adding a new server. If you add a new server and try to use a domain name it will not work. If you create the server using any ip address first then go back and edit that server and change the ip to a domain then it will work. Otherwise you can't use a domain.
Gizmo on the other hand does not seem to be possible to make domain names work at all. The work around like in JRemote doesn't work either as there is no way to go back and edit the server setting to change the ip to a domain like you can in JRemote.

Thanks for reporting that.  OSX?  Or Android?
