Has anyone managed to get an Audinst HUD-mx2 working with an IdPi? The onboard DAC is good but really noisy. I'd like to move my HUD-mx2 from my Windows laptop to the Pi but can't seem to get it to work. If so, instructions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you connecting it via USB?

If so, you'll need to put the IdPi into GUI mode temporarily or connect to it remotely. The first thing you can try is option 10 from the Id main menu. It might be a bit hard to read, but if the IdPi is finding the DAC, you should be able to see it there. This will just tell you if the IdPi is finding it.

If the IdPi see the DAC, try some of the different output audio devices. If you go to Tools -> Options -> Audio, under Audio Device, you should see several different options, but you should be able to tell which of those options are the DAC. Start with an option that starts with "hw:". You might need to try a few different options to find one that works.

Thank you for the help BradATIMA. Yes, The DAC is connected through USB.

Using Option 10 from the Main menu there are 2 cards each with 2 devices each shown: 2 for the on-board dac and 2 for the HUDmx2.

When I go into the Tools -> Options -> Audio menu, under device there are 24 entries, 16 of which show "CARD=HUDmx2". Assuming I don't have to restart MC or reboot the Pi each trial, I have tried them all with no sound other than a bit of very quiet semi-rhythmic digital noise.

The device that worked perfectly for this DAC on my old XP Laptop was ASIO4ALL v2. Does this help?

You don't need to restart Media Center or the IdPi, but you should need to stop and restart playback each time you change the audio device.

If I get frustrated enough I'll just have to buy another DAC. The HiFiBerry DAC+ Pro RCA looks good. I'm I reasonably guaranteed it will work with the IdPi? Anyone with experience with this DAC?

Usually, if the IdPi can see the DAC, it should work with it.

When you try playing a file, does it show the file as playing but with no audio or does it stop playing immediately? If it stops playing immediately, you might just need to configure the output in DSP studio. You could check option 10 again to see what sample rates it shows the DAC supports and then configure the output in DSP studio.

I also noticed the DAC is capable of running off USB power. If you're using USB power, the Raspberry Pi is most likely too low power for this to work.

The file shows as playing. I'm using an independent power supply for the DAC. Do you know why the DAC required ASIO4ALL when I used it on my Laptop? Might that be a clue?

I have tried tinkering with the output in DSP studio (in Options) but will try some more. I'm new to Linux based systems so it is likely some setting that I am oblivious to.

Can anyone guarantee that the HiFiBerry DAC+ Pro RCA works well and sounds good with the IdPi?

Got it! Just opened DSP studio, changed one option, changed it back and the DAC works fine. Go figure.
