Playing MC23 through Project DACBOX DS2 Ultra
« on: February 27, 2018, 04:29:04 am »

I have noticed that ripped CD's are exhibiting glitches which sound like scratches on vinyl and always manifest themselves at the same point on the track when playing via USB off my Macbook Pro or playing through the Id. There is also a noticeable jump in the time display when these glitches appear. Changing to optical output then glitches disappear and everything plays smoothly.

Changing back to the USB, the glitches reappear but if I upscale 44.1 to 88.2 in DSP Studio the glitches disappear.

I then played the same files via USB through my friends Hegel HD30 DAC at 44.1 without any glitches.

Perhaps the Hegel HD30 which costs 6.5 times what the Project DACBOX DS2 Ultra costs sorts the USB feed out better.

All other resolution PCM and DSD files play beautifully, even downloaded 44.1 when output at 44.1.

Has anyone else had similar issues?

Bad CD rips, maybe?

Thought that so re-ripped in every format and glitches in same places but play perfectly through optical S/PDIF with no jumping in time so I'm thinking maybe a USB clocking issue with DAC as Hegel HD30 does not glitch with same file. Up 44.1 to 88.2 and everything smooth.

The above workaround to the glitching of the Project DACBOX DS2 Ultra that was running Firmware V1.4 was required MC23 through to MC25 was the only way I could get USB audio to work on ID or Mac

Project have at last released Firmware V1.10 https://www.project-audio.com/en/product/dac-box-ds2-ultra/#downloads

This has now fixed all of the past issues and now works flawlessly with Mac MC25 and Id
