Am I the only one...

I rarely burn anything as I rip it all to RAID storage and forget about it but I need to burn some CD's and its still a no go for me.

Last time I tried this was a long time back and I got 6 or 7 coasters for my trouble... At the time I just figured it was a beta app so be fair on it and give it some time... I should say I have burnt stuff with MJ8 without issue IIRC...

I have my main desktop with a Pioneer DVD-R (104) that burns CD's OK with XP and other apps... Today I started with this backlog of CD burning and made another 7 coasters.  The error I kept getting on this machine was

Command Sequence Error (and another like logical error or logical command error ??)

The system spec on this is...

So as I really need to get these burnt and dealt with I have a CDR in my RAID box and figured maybee you had not tested too much with a DVDR... The CDR is a HP 9110i and has never given me grief in the past...

So I get .166 release onto my RAID box (and set up RDC as it has no monitor / keyboard) and generally mess around re importing the database etc...

Start the burn and get

Invalid field in CDb.

Thats about 15 coasters now and CDR's are not cheap and easy to get here on the island...

I dont use MC for video... I dont use MC for pictures... I dont use MC even for ripping... I simply use it for ASIO playback and (want) to use it for burning too...

As it is I am loath to test any further as these blanks all add up (and annoy)... I had seen all the issues with burning previously but thought this had been solved...

Am I just unlucky ?? Am I the only one ??

Sorry if this sounds down... You know I love the app but this is basic functionality surely...

What about B168? I believe ZRock had similar problems and 168 took care of them. Try it if you haven't.

PS: Did you turn off XP's internal burner?

I will try the most recent build but 166 was only a few days ago...

Also thats 2 different systems... 2 Different errors... niether able to burn with MC...

How do I turn off XP's buffer ??

To turn off XP's built in burning software...

Right click on the My Computer icon and select properties.      
Find your RW drive and right click on icon. Select Drive properties.      
Go to the Recording tab and uncheck "Enable CD recording on this drive"      
Reboot

Just tried the RAID box (with the HP 9110i CDR) exact same error hapens on the same track (different tracks depending on album)...

Errors out with Invalid field in CDb

No hope ??

And on the box with the DVDRW I get the whole burning process (testing only) until the eject and re-insert while it states it is finishing the disk and then the whole app crashes with 'Media Core' being blamed by XP...

I really need to get 20+ CD's burnt up and this is a PITA to say the least...

Any suggestions... Any hope... Any ideas...

Did you turn off XP's burning?

Did you try a slower speed?

Try dropping the burn speed to 4X and see if it helps. If it's an audio mode burn, also uncheck the "direct decoding" option. Leave it in test mode until you get one to work, that will avoid burning coasters.

Tried burning off... no difference on either machine (one stops with the CDb error, the other crashes at the end of the burn process)...

Will now try slower speeds on both machines...

Also now getting weird interaction with this build... If I select an album and send to burner (by any of the methods) I get the albums tracks listed twice... If I then delete one track from the end it deletes both versions in the queue !! Eg an album 1 - 10 tracks ends up with a queue 1 - 20 running 1 - 10 and then repeating (not interleaving) if I delete track 20 it removes track 20 and track 10 so I only have 18 left...

These suggestions assume that he's having buffer under-run problems. I think about 80% of the burners that people are using now have the "burn-proof" feature which eliminates the buffer under-run problem, so I'm not sure if defaulting to the lower performance drives would make sense at this time. Probably within 6 months to a year it will be about 90% of the drives will have "burn-proof". Virtually all drives over 8X speed have this feature.

It would be a good idea to pop-up a message about taking these actions (lower speed, uncheck direct decoding) when a buffer under-run occurs. However, it's not really easy to tell when this happens since different drives act differently, but something in this area could be done.

So up to date release... Tried burning at 1x speed and get the error... Failed to start write.

Any other speed (2x - 8x) writes the whole disk and crashes out on the finishing disk and writing lead out and brings the whole app down (Media Core crash)... All exactly as before...

Any further suggestions...

I have tried everything and I still have 0 burning abilities despite 2 machines... You only need to hit a 50% success rate for me to shut up !!!

I really need to be able to burn and both machines give different errors...

Any clue on wnat the CDb error could be related too ??

I am using the same source files... I have tried clearing the database and re-importing it (so logically both machies import the same data)... One machine burns to the end of disc (as above), this machine crashes out at the same track each time (different tracks depending on album but the same place on each album)...

Since I also have the Pioneer DVD-104 drive, let's concentrate on that one first. First of all, you're doing audio mode CD burns, not data mode correct?
Try turning on MC's logging for CD burning by changing the value of this registry key from zero (0) to one (1):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JRiver\Media Jukebox\CD Writer\Logger

Then just start up Media Center and try to burn a CD. Then exit MC and find a file in the MC program directory called "cdwriter.log" and email that to me. This file gets overwritten every time you start MC, so grab it before you restart MC.

For the test, so that we're both doing the same thing, burn about 30 minutes worth of tracks. Have "direct decoding" enabled, have "use crossfade/dsp" enabled, have "test mode" disabled, set the writing speed at maximum. Use Ape files if you have them, otherwise, let me know what format the files are in.
