JRiver crashes whenever I'm using Panel or DLNA server...
« on: October 27, 2019, 03:56:55 am »

Hi,

I just installed MC25 on my W10 PC.

MC25 & server crash whenever I'm using Panel for a few minutes on Chrome / Android.

Is this common? What to do to fix that?

Not common. Certainly not a crash of the server.

I run Panel in Chrome on Android all the time, and I can't remember the MC Server ever crashing. I have seen it lock up when I do a lot of fiddling around, testing stuff, starting playback, stopping, etc. But not for a long time, and not a crash. Just unresponsive as though it was overwhelmed by all the requests from Panel.

Maybe turn on logging in MC, capture an event, and see what you can in the log. If it is a crash there will be a crash dump file in the log zip file.

PS: Also make sure you have tamed Windows Defender, or whatever security software you are using, for MC25. You probably had it set up for the previous version of MC you were using. You need to update exclusions for MC25.

If you're not running version 25.0.114 of Media Center, try upgrading to the latest version. There was a crash that was fixed in that version.

I was using 25.xxx.113, I'm going to upgrade to 114 and see if this solves the problem because these crashes haven't stopped happening since.

@Roderick: the Windows Defender exceptions for JRiver have been properly set up when I first launched the software.

Okay, the server crashes are definitely back, I hope this stability issue  is being recognized as a problem... It happens daily, esp. (if not exclusively) when accessing DLNA server from the panel interface or VLC.

I missed your answer, sorry ! No, I'm not overclocking or anyhting like that & my Windows 10 install is all fresh and without problem.

I have a desktop Windows 10 PC that stores all my files and runs JRiver MC 25. I also have an Windows 10 HTPC that runs JRiver MC25 and connects to the library of the desktop PC. I also have an Android smartphone with which I access my library (via VLC to the DLNA server and via Chrome mobile to Panel).

When I'm playing music & movies with my desktop PC & HTPC, crashes don't really happen. When I use VLC & Chrome to access the DLNA server & Panel however, it crashes the JRiver MC25 & server on my dekstop PC.

Out of curiosity, I accessed the panel interface from my desktop PC (localhost:52199) to see what would happen and it didn't crash.

I have a main WiFi network run by a WiFi AP/router and an extended WiFi network run by a WiFi AP that connects to the main WiFi router.

The server is connected to the extended network and most crashes happen if I access the DLNA/Panel server from the main network, I've noticed.
