MC Crashing
« on: January 08, 2020, 02:57:38 am »

Hi

I am getting a repetitive crash when updating tags

for example I have a 30 track 2 disc album , I have 3 Custom Tags >  Box Set, Disc Name, Disc Volume

As I bulk change the tag for all 30 tracks I get a waiting circle and MC crashes , it has happened 3 times in the last 5 mins. The Tags are partially updated

PC Is i7 16Gb RAM, Library & App on a 256 SSD - with nothing else running except MC and MC Server Music is stored on 4Tb HDD

This is build 26.0.15 Win 10 with all updates , the Music Drive is Excepted from Anti Virus

Any ideas , its a bit irritating

That Drive is excluded , the C:\ drive isn't  . I use a protected Working drive until i'm happy then copy to the main Music Library drive which is excluded

Just checked , the main F Drive (Music Files) is excluded

I even had the Users appdata JRiver folder excluded for V 24 , I just excluded V 26

Unlikely to be that

Any more ideas , i did a little bit of editing yesterday and MC crashed repeatedly

I was editing a 10 disc set changing say 150 tags , it must have crahed 5 times

I have upgraded to 26.0.18 but not tested yet

This can't be a Windows Defender problem because the drive I was working on is excluded from Windows Defender , all my Library File Drives are

Do you let your media drives go to sleep?

Did you follow the instructions in the Windows Defender thread?

Are you using MC 26.0.18?  It's at the top of this board.

In addition to excluding the folder(s) your media files are in, you really should also exclude Media Center 26's folder/files as well.

In my own experience, Windows Defender (along with and other antivirus applications) can cause weird issues in MC, especially after a new, major MC version was just released. It may or may not happen to everyone, but I have noticed things in the not-too-distant past like Defender causing MC to lock up, and higher resource usage (I suspect Defender's engine is submitting MC's executable samples to Microsoft for additional scanning).

I do plan on redoing the Windows Defender tutorial at some point, since in the current tutorial I kinda went overboard excluding every file and folder, but I think it can be simplified to excluding just two folders.

I have all appropriate folders excluded including The MC 26 folder in app data. Its been like this for literally year with adjustments for the Version specific folders

I have upgraded to 26.0.18 , but the issue I was experiencing was on 26.0.15

I am working on MC s we speak and so far I haven't had a crash maybe its fixed in this version ?

The release notes don't give any hints. My PC currently has very little running on it .

There has been a Windows update today along with a Visual Studio update for Net Core , both are applied and the PC rebooted

I have a few things to do that similar to what was giving me grief yesterday , I'll keep you posted

One thing may be is that my C System Drive is getting a bit full only 9% Free

I'll have a bit of a clean up

Would that have an impact ?

Just an update , I cleared 40 gb of disc space on my C drive , no crashes since

Looks like 9 gb free wasn’t enough ?

Is that for real?
