Clone library options
« on: April 03, 2020, 05:24:45 am »

Good morning

On a Mac, the music files are stored on an external USB drive entitled "Music"
All music has been imported from this source
The HDD started failing, so it is now stored on a Windows machine
From the Mac, I can see the files in a folder on the Windows machine, as SMB://192.168.88.174

I tried to clone the library and inserted this address in the URL space
The response is that an empty folder is required

Is this the correct way to instruct JR to read the files which were on the USB drive, but now reside in a different place?

Thank you

The library is a database of the files, not the playable files themselves.
You can just create a library folder under Documents for instance and then set your auto-imports to use the samba drive.
MC doesn't copy the media files by default like iTunes, it's more like when you disable that option in iTunes preferences.

Thanks

Perhaps I did not phrase the question properly
I know the library is a database

What I was asking is how to change (only) the file location of the files listed in the library

They were /Media/music
It is now SMB://192.168.88.274

Thanks

MC has a Find and Replace.

The wiki has a topic on Moving Files.

Yes, I had already read through the Wiki instructions, which are clear.  I thought that was exactly what is needed, until I tried to use it

However, the Find & Replace screen presented on the actual program is nothing like the example given

Yes, that is correct - The screen shown does not offer the same options as the one shown in the Wiki

Are we talking about the same version of JR?  This one is ver 26 on a Mac

The wiki is pretty out of date there.

It looks like you want to select the files, then use the Rename, Move and Copy tool and do the Find and Replace subfunction.
You cannot use SMB: paths as far as I know. I mount the share on my /Volumes and specify a path to that when I'm using NAS media.
