SACD playback no longer works?
« on: March 15, 2020, 04:13:22 pm »

Hello, I recently upgraded from MC20 to MC 26. When I select an SACD track to play on my external DAC (PS Audio DS, via bridge II), it "looks" like it is playing - the progress bar is moving through the song, but I don't hear it. In JRemote it shows it is starting to play and then restarts after a few seconds and this repeats over and over. This used to work... File Type is 'sacd' ; media type is 'Audio'; sample rate is DSD64 (1x).

Tools; Options; Media and Network; Client Options; Audio Conversion is set to 'Convert Audio if necessary' and Encoder: PCM 24-bit.

The file does play through my computer. Any help is appreciated.

Describe your setup.  Client/server?

I have a windows 10 computer running JRiver version 26.  I stream local files from my NAS to an external DAC via ethernet cable. DLNA. The dac is the ps audio direct stream with bridge 2 hardware. Latest firmware. This setup works for all other file types like flac and uncompressed windows files.

Playing the sacd iso files does work on the computer locally through my sound card.

I am sure this worked with mc20, but alas i also updraded the dac from an earlier ps audio dac. So i am unsure which upgrade is causing the problem. I would like to reinstall mc20 to determine that.

Are you importing the files from the NAS into MC?

Or are you using a UPnP or DLNA server on the NAS?

The first is preferred.

I am importing the files into JRiver I do not use any other software. I typically use JRemote to control playback but I have also used the JRiver media center from the computer with the same result.

You may need to rip the files.  See the SACD topic on the wiki.

Here's an old thread that might help:

I just re-installed MC20 to see if it still worked. I set up my DNLA via tools and options. I opened one of my sacd ISO media files and was able to play it on my external DAC from the JRiver MC20 software. This proves to me that it is an issue with my MC26 setup and not with the DAC.

I then reopened MC26 and opened the same media file for the same 'Now Playing' target, and it does not play.

Is there a way to completely reset MC26 to defaults?

Not sure what else to try. Please advise.

Hello,

I have a similar issue, with 26.x, DSF files without conversion doesn't play at all. It was fine with 25.x.

Something happens with versions 26.x.

Odd, DSF files are working fine here for me in MC26 (no conversions used, DSD bitstreaming enabled).

Awesome Donkey,

I mean using JRiver as a DLNA server, and playing DSF files in a music streamer that supports DSF natively. In this scenario, in my case it works with 25.x and not with 26.x.

Are you using this configuration (JRiver as a DLNA Server)?

Thank you very much.

No, DSF files being played to a DAC via USB.

Are you absolutely sure the DLNA settings, especially for DoPE, are exactly the same between MC25 and MC26? Did you do any FileAssociations.xml tweaks for DSD in MC25? If so, you'd probably need to do them again for MC26. You might try searching the forums on that subject if that's indeed the case. If that doesn't work, you might try unchecking the DoPE option and see if native DSD works (if that's supported by the receiver).

Yes, the DLNA setting are the same. In fact, I backup the library in JRiver 25, and then restore in JRiver 26 with the "Restore settings" checked. Then, I have also verified the restore was fine and that the settings are the same.

Thanks.

JimH,

Getting back to the original issue I posted. I can play SACD ISOs thru MC20, but not thru MC26. I cannot find the DoPE options in MC26 as suggested by Awesome Donkey.. (in MC20 I see 'Bitstream DSD (requires DoPE compliant renderer) under DLNA Servers and this is unchecked). See attachments which are all mc26 except where noted.

DSD certainly is playable in MC26.  Sorry you couldn't get it working.
