GL Shaders failed
« on: February 05, 2020, 11:28:30 am »

I updated to Media Player 26 with no problems then yesterday the theatre view stopped working. I get the message "error starting open GL engine - loading open GL shaders failed."
I noticed that last year comments were made similar to my problem with MP 24 and MP25 which related the problem to Windows 7 and making certain all updates were loaded.
I have more than one PC but the one I use as a media player for my network is using Windows 7. I know that support has ended for this system but I know everything is up to date. I have disabled windows update to stop it checking for non-existent updates and the network is fully protected with Norton 360,VPN,  firewall etc.
After support for windows 7 ended theatre view still worked until yesterday. My system hasn't changed, any ideas?

The answer may be in this area.  There is a current problem, for example, caused by Nord VPN.

Still got the problem. I was hoping that the stable version of MC 26 would resolve the issue.
A lof of the problem is attached. Hopefully somebody will have an idea.

Please make sure all Windows updates are installed. We require quite some recent updates for Theater View to function.

If all Windows updates are installed, and you are still getting that message, you can manually install this update:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2999226/update-for-universal-c-runtime-in-windows

But I would recommend to only do this as a last resort and first try to solve this through Windows Update alone.

I have managed to resolve this issue.
On my windows 7 machine I  have gone back to Version 23. The theatre view works perfectly, no problems at all but when I try it on Version 26 the problem comes back.
Looks as if I should stay with Version 23!
I on my Windows 10 PC the theatre view works perfectly.
Any ideas why this happens between Version 23 and Version 26?

The log you posted is rather clear what the problem is - you are lacking the required windows updates for part of Theater View to load.

Can you tell which windows update I am missing so that I can find it and install it?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Make sure you have Windows Update set in its settings to install updates for other Microsoft products (and not just Windows itself) and do a Windows Update check and see if that does it.
