Can someone explain the TV function
« on: April 05, 2003, 12:23:09 pm »

Can someone explain the TV function of Media Center for me?

I don't have a TV card to test it out and depending on your explanation I might buy one.  What is the TiVo function that was just added in the 9.0.143 build?

Do You Have A Tivo?

I think Mine Was About $450 (80 Hours) Digital Recorder, It Runs on Lynix (I think) and has an 80gig or so hard drive into it and can be hooked up to a local network to share Video and In Some Cases Music.

They have samples on the Tivo web site.

===================================

I am not sure J River Has Really Anounced That Option Yet.

But If You Look At What They Said And Go To The Tvio Web Site You Can Figure Some Of It Out.

you can Play And Record TV, or any Input source into the TV Card.

I think ATI TV may work Best.

My ATI All-In-Wonder 7500 video / TV card works simply wonderfully.  Also provides a good frame rate boost for games such as Filight Sim.

They all come with a really nice RF Remote control.

Also look at the ATI A-I-W 8500 & 9700 (depending on how much money you want to spend).

what one do you have?

I had (Gave To My Son Flight Sim 2000 I got It Free From MS For Doing A Servey, Combat Flight Sim #1, #2)

And I just got Combat Flight Sim #3 Working On This Computer. On the ATI 9700 Pro.

Using A ATI Tv Wonder Card (It's In there, And Works, But Not Really Using It).

The ATI 9700 Has some really good graphics! it is amaizing the Dif between a standard video card and the high end cards.

Always go for the best, for sure.

I think the rule is the TV card must use "WDM Drivers"

ATI i think works best because JRiver Started With ATI TV Cards and they are Good Cards.

Yaobing is the expert on this.  You could search for his posts and learn more.  You can also read this:

Hauppauge cards are usually fine, too.  So is the AverTV card.  I believe the driver requirement is "Direct Show".  Most cards support it now.

It's not possible for us to say which cards will work and be completely reliable, since the card makers change their drivers all the time and sometimes that can create a problem.

It would seem the best you could reasonably hope for (assuming a reasonable quality) is 100 kbps (which is about 6MB/minute.) including both video and audio streams.  Unfortunately, MC currently supports only PCM audio, so I haven't been able to get 6 MB/minute without doing a secondary recompression of the audio.

You'd need to play around with the various video codecs and decide what's an acceptable size vs. quality tradeoff.

Scott-

P.S.  How has anyone faired (or is it fared?) with the JRiver Video Codec?  I've been sticking with XDIV or DIVX.

I would get the one with FM Radio Built in.

I would not have a clue if the card would work with MC9 or if MC9 would handle The FM radio.

maybe soeone with the card would speakup

I have compared the Hauppauge WinTV Go to an ATI All In Wonder V and the Hauppauge was a clearly better picture.  Both worked with MJ 8 at the time.  I plan to buy the Hauppauge with the FM at some point.
