Whitebear Media Server
« on: October 19, 2021, 06:39:56 pm »

Hi

I installed the Whitebear MediaServer and a Logitech Media server, in a W10 PC, to have access with the JRiver MC to a piCoreplayer that is running in a RPi4 with a Zen Dac V2.

With this arrangement the JRiver see's the pCP as a Media Renderer and works OK for all types of files I use Flac, Dsf, Wav DXD, etc.

But the Media Renderer "created" by the Whitebear MediaServer is only available in the PC where this bundle is running, and the rest of network don't see it.

Is this normal or I have something wrong in the network configuration?

Fernando

It should be visible across the whole network. You probably have a firewall program running, that is blocking the media server.

It's probably whatever port is set on the server.  https://www.whitebear.ch/mediaserver.htm

To Andrew and Jim

It was the Windows 10 firewall that was blocking the "WhiteBearServerService.exe".

I have gave permissions to this service, in the local network, and now is working 100%.

Thank You both

Fernando

PS: maybe a Windows 10 problem

Its the 31416 ?

I haven’t touched this code for ten years, but as I recall the server is on TCP port “Pi” so 31416 (or 31415). But you also need to open the UPNP UDP port 1900.

Furthermore, some firewall apps just block anything to/from the whole server application (regardless of what ports it uses), so make sure that this is not happening in your case.

Hi Andrew

Windows 10 have in the "Windows Security > Firewall & network protection" a function "Allow an app thought firewall" and its easy to configurate.

I add the "WhiteBearServerService.exe" and now is working fine.

Thanks for Your support
