Winamp Gives Up Again

Releases source.

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/10/winamp-really-whips-open-source-coders-into-frenzy-with-its-source-release/

"Despite how this license would seem to bar forks, or perhaps because of that, the code has been forked at least 2,600 times as of this writing. In forking and examining the source when first released, coders have noticed some, shall we say, anomalies... "

Now you see it. Now you don't.  Source code removed.

I'm honestly surprised it was up as long as it was.

I'm honestly surprised it was up as long as it was.

I also.

I have stumbled upon this amazing media software.  Something called JRiver Media Center.

I moved to it after Apple's iTunes apparently turned out to be little more than a money grab.

After that move, I have not had one regret for the move.

Indeed, ...

OK, I just asked the Windows box for a summary of the files that I give JRiver management to.

It's been a few minutes, and Windows is not yet done with the summary.

Wow.

OK, the final tally seems to be ...

57 thousand media files, occupying 4.9TB of space on the data server drives.

Woof.

While I am sure that others may have trusted many more media titles to JRiver, I do repeat, for me ...

Woof.

To that, all I can say is, thank-you to the JRiver team for this awesomely great software that I have entrusted my musical history to.

That is a significant statement from me.

Music has always been a part of my life.  My Dad played in the Apollo Theater in Harlem, NYC.

There was always music in my house when I was growing up.

And now, thanks to JRiver, there is still music in my house.

Thank-you.

(and now I return you to your regularly scheduled program ....)
