What is v10?
« on: February 20, 2004, 06:16:11 pm »

[Update] The update from MC9 to MC10 is currently $20. I created a summary of noteworthy changes to MC 10 I could find in the change lists in this thread:

--------------------------------------
Hi All,
Work has kept me swamped the last few months so I haven't kept abreast of v10. I just downloaded it yesterday to see what was new versus 9.1.316 and it looks like not much.

What am I missing that makes v10 qualify to be v10?
I use an iPod and I have about 37,000 VBR MP3 tracks.

Also, is the "upgrade" price now $40?

Thanks,

Lic and Price Thread: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=17336

They have done some amazing work for Ipod users,
Download it and play with it, I believe you have a 30 day trial.

You can also go into the Beta thread in each 10 and see what has changed,
Someone once did a master list, but I am not sure if it is still up to date...

Thanks for answering, gamer.
I have downloaded it and I am using it. So far I only see incremental changes.

I have read 3 different threads on the current pricing including the one you referenced and I was still not quite sure that I got it right. It seems that there is no longer any upgrade price for v9 users and I will have to pay $40 for v10.

I have also read several of the changes lists, but I didn't notice big changes worthy of a major version change. I would like someone to highlight which big changes made this version qualify for the 9-10 bump.

SteveG has, as usual, done terrific things for the iPod, but I've only noticed one significant change for v10. When I sync it shows me the files that are really being sync'd  instead of listed all 4000 files. I like that change very much, but I don't think it's worth $40 to me.

I feel like I'm missing the point of v10.

>>Just post your question
Hi Jim,
I have posted the question twice in this thread. I did a board search and it seemed that the upgrade offers have expired. Is this correct?

Do I need to pay $40 to move from v9 to v10?

(BTW, I just downloaded and installed the v10 trial over my registered v9 install. I tried the Help menu order link and it said I would need to pay $40. The link did not have a license # after it like I've seen illustrated in other posts.)

Also, has any created a simple list of major changes between v9 and v10? If so, could you please give me a link or a good set of keywords to search on?

Thanks,

I'll see what I can do about getting you a master list of changes... Won't be till later tonight though...

By the way, did you have a V8 lic that you upgraded to MC9 or was it a original MC9 lic?

Thanks, gamer! Do you work for JRiver or are you a fellow dedicated afficianado of Media Center?

>>did you have a V8 lic that you upgraded to MC9 or was it a original MC9 lic?
Upgraded to MC9. Not sure that it matters, the purchasing FAQ that Jim linked to has no upgrade pricing on it at all. WAIT! STRIKE THAT! I FOUND IT!

http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/buy_faq_10.html
A Version 9 license can be upgraded to Version 10 for $19.98.  This includes anyone who started with a V8 license and then paid to upgrade it to Version 9.  Either way, it is $19.98.

OK, now to find out what changed and how I can get the $20 upgrade price if I want it.

Thanks for the reply, Jim. I expected to find the upgrade info directly on the link you sent and almost missed the detailed information.

Could you please add this link to the normal v10 release announcements?
